Do you think that the inner city folks will snatch up those produce picking jobs once the illegals are gone? The migrant workers here in MI didn;t show up in previous numbers, and spring crops were tilled under...driving up the cost of produce. Don't think there are that many illegals picking produce? Think again...

No, I think a majority of inner city folks don't work because they don't want to. I live in the innercity, work for a non-profit and can tell you this from personal experience. But that does not excuse millions of aliens from breaking the law.

This ties into your previous question.
Yes, the cheap migrant workers are causing the loss of inner city jobs. Inner cities are the manufacturing centers. This is where the machinery would be produced to perform the task that the migrant workers are doing.
As long as cheap labor is abundant, there will be no R&D in any mechanization of that task.
This is why in places like India and China, where labor is very cheap, that road construction crews use manual labor to move earth rather than bulldozers. This eliminates the demand for bulldozers and the higher skilled jobs require to make that equipment. Only industrialization grows an economy. Economies that rely on manual labor over machinery cannot have any increase in the standard of living. Manual labor over mechanized labor creates poverty rather than wealth.

We have always had a LEGAL immigrant farm worker program.
Mexicans are flooding here and we don't have farms.......we are a resort area and we never had a problem with getting workers before....but the resorts are getting away with building dormatories and paying way less!! While at the same time charging more and more.
see the pattern??

We have mushroom pickers (?) where I am and most if not all are Mexican immigrants. They have been here so long that there are more Mexican restaurants and grocery stores than ever before. By the way these are the best damn Mexican restaurants, sure beat the crap out of Taco Bell.

Sorry, I went of subject, I am so hungry.

Some are working, some don't want to work.

Illegals are NOT the reason that inner city folks aren't working.

We have a legal farm worker program, why is it necessary to hire those who violate the law and come here illegally?

Here is what I think would work. And yes I know it would never happen, but I can still dream......

Deport the illegals, then cut off the gravy train, or at least alot of it.
