As far as how painful it is, look for my yahooquestion "How does it feel being pregnant and giving child birth compared to this?"
I got a whopping 24 replies, a lot more than I expected. Those replies go into a bit more detail than I thought, or with some replies, a little more detail than I really hoped for.

It's different for every single person, and even for the person but different pregnancies/labor.
When it comes to epidurals, it all depends on who is giving it on how much it hurts, if at all, and how well it works, etc.
Where did you read that there was a 50/50 chance of dying?
What's cause of long labors? That varies on MANY different things. Too many to actually go through detail on. A lot of it also has to do with family history. Fast labors run in my family. So I had 1st/only child here 3 ours after my water broke. They say usually the first is the longest. But like I said it's different for everyone. No, there is no way to shorten labor time unless you have to have a c-section.
Of course it is. You get to finally hold your beautiful child that you've been growing in side you. You finally officially a mother. It's the best feeling in the world. I hated my pregnancy, and I hated labor/delivery. It's all very gross and uncomfortable. But then end result is amazing. But the pain, discomfort, etc, is only for 10 months of your life. I say 10 months because sometimes it's still pretty comfortable after you have the baby.

I had two C sections and I have one on the way that also will be a C sect. I had an epidural done for both and it was painless for me. Make sure you know who is giving the epidural and their experience. There is a chance of death when you walk out the door, fly a plane or go sky diving. Percentages dont help much with pregnancy because everyone is different. Complications do arise but with medical technology today, its so minimal that its not worth freaking out over. If you work out through your pregnancy, walk when you can and keep active, that helps labor a lot. I think it is totally worth everything you go through. The rewards totally outweight the harships you may go through.
God Bless.

It is really difficult without the epidural I did one with and one with out. Dying in childbirth is rare so please try to not worry about that. Your body and the hormones raging through it as well as the size of the baby decide how long you will be in labor and in my experience faster is harder.
It is absolutely worth every minute of it.
I was in labor for 3 1/2 hours with my daughter with no epidural and pushing was the worst pain in the world. I had an epidural with my son and was in labor for six and pushed much more effectively because I wasn't in pain and enjoyed his birth.
It is an individual decision that you don't even have to make until you get to the hospital. Going natural doesn't make you a great mother, being there to raise your child does.
Good luck!

Who told you all that? That is really silly... I have givin birth twice, my first lasted 30mins no meds...To be honest the nurse said I was crazy when I said I think the babys coming, I had NO contractions and if I did I did not feel them and they did not show up on the monitor. My second I was born in 10 mins a total of 3 pushes, This one I did have meds on, it helped me relax due to back to back labor for 24 hours, not painful labor, just tired labor, caused me to stress. Anway getting of track. The needle flet like a bee sting that lasted 20 secs, I have never heard of a 5050 chance on dieing. You can not perdict your labor, god does as he feels you can handel. my son is now 7months my daugther is now 2 years, I want another one. You forget the pain your in, easy or even the hard pain...You forget all about it. I found that taking a hot shower and letting the water pelt on my back while rocking back and forth helped my labor And last but not least, YES YES YES YES it is so worth everything, the long 9 months and the low back achs. It is worth every min for your little buddle of joy...

No, you can't control how long or short your labour will be. As far as the epidural needle, you feel a sting in your spine when it goes in, but it's nothing compared to the contractions. No, your risk of death during childbirth is very very slim these days.
And yes, it is worth going through the horrible pain.

I don't know yet what it is really like. Keigel exercises tend to help you with the delivery so I've been doing mine religiously. But I think no matter how painful, how long, what I have to go through, having this little baby will be worth more than anything like that.

Natural is the best. I don't remember how much pain I had, I just know there is pain. My mother told me that your not suppose to remember how much pain you had when you gave birth.
