took my daughter to get her eyebrow pierced last nite?

- she is 17 - she has a job
- she paid for it, i just had to sign
- i personally feel that if she is going to get it done, i want it done by someone who KNOWS what they are doing and will put something in there that is small enough it will not scar when she decides to take it out
- it is small, fits up against her head and doesn't stick out (it's a bar, not a ring)

your thoughts?

I think it's fine. She's old enough to have done it herself...and I think you supporting her in it will do a lot of good for your relationship. Plus I think the little hoops can be pretty.

If you had denied her, she probably would have had it done anyway. The fact that you accepted her decision, and went ahead with it, means that you are now more approachable. Approachable parents are good parents. Now that you have shown some understanding and respect (because this is a good example of both), it is more likely that your daughter will speak to you first before making any bad decisions in the future.

The secret is to give good advice, but only to advise, rather than nag and lay down barriers. Good communication is a two-way thing, and is also vital to a good relationship.

Well done.

No, it doesn't make you a bad mother within a year she would do it anyway. My sister took 1 of her daughter's at the age of 13 to get her eyebrow and her belly button pierced that isn't right!

Okay let's see how well I know you I believe you are a single Mom and are gainfully employed? Those things alone make you an excellent Mom in my book. You don't have any alcohol or drug problems I think you are fine I had my 6 year olds hair high lighted for her last Bday does that make me a bad mom?

No, I do not think you are a bad mom . Now if you did not check it out with your daughter I think you would be irresponsible. She is almost an adult but you want to make sure she does not get hurt in any way. I think that is your motherly protective instinct coming out.

If she wanted it and you took her then I think it is bettter with you than a stranger. You can at least look out for her best interest. She would do it anyway, so why not have you there. She'll probably be more open with you and you can get through to her better.

Absolutely not! I took my son to get his ears done for his 14th birthday and his tattoo at 17. That does not make you a bad Mom... it makes you an understanding Mom and a great Mom for being there for your kids without being judgmental. Props to you!

its all good! You are a cool mom! By going with your daughter to get her eyebrow pierced, she will be less likely to do things behind your back now because you have established the similar "trust" bond...

I agree with you totally my dear. Kids are going to do what they want to do regardless if they have your permission or not and you are wise to take her to a professional rather than let her get it done on the corner of 8th and Avenue R. I would rather my kids get pierced than get a tatoo but I may eat my words one of these days.

no it doesnt. You support your child and helped her out by making sure everything was cope-a-setic...if you didnt she would have ran off to a place and got it done the wrong way.

plus she is 17 she will be considered an adult soon so treat her like one
