create a dry ice bomb. you need a plastic bottle, dry ice, water and a glove. fill a 2 liter about 1/3 with water and then put dry ice chips in the bottle (always wear a glove it is so cold it will burn you) put the lid on and wait. (do it outside and be safe please)

adding to the previous answer, any small explosion will sound more impressive if it happens in a larger canister. maybe put the dry ice bomb in a metal trash can or such.
In terms of sonics you're looking for a large pressure differential over a large area in a pulse. the can helps focus the air pressure into a single pulse over the area of the open end of the can.

Colonel pain's idea is a good one, but be sure to put the dry ice in the bottle first, and put the cap on real quick after adding the water. Dropping the whole thing into a trash can is a good idea too, that way if you don't run fast enough, it will not hurt you.
