the flex plate bolts to the crank shaft. the bolt holes on the flex plate are offset such that it will only bolt up in the correct position. if you can not install a bolt in all holes its in the wrong position.

A flex plate is another name for a flywheel. It doesnt bolt to the trans, it attaches to the back of the motor to the crankshaft. The dished out part faces in on most applications. The vehicle make,model, and year would be helpful.

it goes on the engine actually ,and it goes with the raised in being closer to the crank shaft,this makes it possible to put the bolts in it for the torque converter,it wont work the other way,good luck on it.
