It used to be worse.

I was just sent this article written about the Stonewall Riots shortly after they happened. Dr. Doris could have written the headline: "Homo Nest Raided, Queen Bees Stinging Mad."

I knew about Stonewall, but reading this showed me how far we have come.

"The police are sure of one thing. They haven't heard the last from the Girls of Christopher Street. "

What do y'all think? And if you were old enough to hear or read about Stonewall at the time, what do you remember?

I'm 33; I wasn't born yet, either.

I'm only 22, so I would not have even been born when it happened, but things were vastly different in America than they are today. Being openly gay was not an option open to very many people at all. And those who were faced some serious backlashes from the public at large and the police. You could be jailed simply for being gay. Not for any sexual act, although that was a real possibility too. But just for BEING gay. The South was still deeply segregated at that time too. Women's rights were still in its early stages. Legalised abortion was unheard of. Quite a few things have changed. Most for the better.

I have read up on the Stonewall Riots, but that article seems to be something the Daily News might have foisted.
