a better marriage system

With all the separations, divorces, fighting.

Maybe have partner swapping or trading clauses in all marriage licenses.

Any suggestions?

I think marriages should have renewal dates every 5 years. If a marriage is not going well, people just don't renew the marriage license and split everything 50/50. Child custody and support will be largely handled by anonymous vote of all family members on both sides that become legally responsible for helping rear the children financially. No child support directed at only one parent.

I don't think swapping partners would help stop separation/divorce. It might make sexual relations better, but I believe there would be a lot more jealousy and fighting. I don't know that there is a cure for all the marital disharmony in the world. I agree with an earlier post that pre-marital counseling and counseling during the marriage would help. Because sometimes all the pent up anger stops you from being able to be more open with your partner. A better understanding of marriage might help. People oftentimes confuse love and lust. It's easy to be in lust with someone, but love means dealing with both the good and the bad. I watch "Divorce Court" a lot, and some of the things these people split up over is ridiculous!!!! I think a lot of people mistake love to mean that they should get everything they want in a relationship...but sometimes that's not possible because there are two people involved. If what I want is totally opposite to what my husband wants, then who should get what they want? (ANSWER: Neither...compromise has to be put into play.)

First you have to be kidding about partner swapping. That's sick. The other thing
is you need to be friends before you get married or you have nothing to base a good marriage on. When the fur hits the fan, when trouble comes, that friendship
will carry you through. We have had tragedy losing family members and friends over the years and some stresses can cause marriages to collapse. That's when you need to dig in your heels and work together, pull together not apart.
That's the problem with people today, they give up too easy and then they think that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. It's not, just mud.

I think that alot of people get married too soon before finding out what the other person is truly like. This makes things very difficult in a marriage, because you find out after the fact that the person is the total opposite of what you thought they were. Your you find that marriage wasn't what you thought it was. Some of the marriages today are couples at a very young age, who decide after time that they have missed out on so much because of being married. This is such a shame.

Yes, I'd like to have three husbands instead of one, please. When we get divorced - the likelihood is high that we would - they will have to share child support, divorce costs, alimony, etc. Such a deal for them!
They get to be frat guys all over again by sharing the same house with me. That's fun. I draw the line at keg parties, though. I don't think I'd mind cleaning and cooking for 3 guys instead of one. Depends on their personal habits. One sloppy guy could be worse than 3 neat and tidy guys!
I'd get all the sex I want. They'd keep me interested because the variety is there.
They would be related to each other through marriage and possibly, this would enlarge their network of contacts, which would help them in business.
Father's Day would be the most festive day of the year, somewhat like Christmas.
I think I could manage going on 3 different vacations each year: think of it as 'alone' time with each of the husbands.
This is utopian thinking. The Mormons often had/have successful marriages with multiple wives. Why not multiple husbands? DNA testing proves paternity these days, something the Mormons didn't have in the early days of their religion.
I know - there would have to be some adjustments to the legal system - no more than gay marriage demands! In fact, I don't think gays should marry - I think gays should have civil unions. I think my scheme is perfect for a variation of civil unions.
Nowhere in the Bible do women have multiple husbands. So let's leave religion out of this. I don't need a church wedding anyway, unless it was offered by some off-beat fringe type of religious sect, 'The Church of the Green Avocados' would probably offer me a wonderful fake wedding ceremony. A trip to apply for civil union status at the town hall, then a big wedding breakfast for me and my guys at the local IHOP!

I agree and i would love to. :)
Marriages should never end in bitterness and hatred, you once loved that person...people change, they grow up, gather new idea's etc...does it mean you have to denounce everything about a person because things happen???
Partner swapping sounds fun, but I think the long term would be a problem...what if you wanted yours back, and they now attached to someone else?
Marriage is a commitment, and of the forever kind...but somehow something bad happened and it seems to have lost it's staying power.
Sad but true.

First of all, I agree. What's deal with all of these people just getting married just because. BUT partner swapping and trading, that's un-moral and nasty. I think that the length of time for approval of the marriage license should be increased and that the couples should be ordered to marriage counseling before they actually tie the knot. I also think that society should stop judging those who choose to live together before getting married. God knows that if I wouldn't had lived with my husband for 3 years before we actually tied the knot, I would had divorced him within 2 weeks of marriage. You don't know someone until you live with them. God honest truth! We moved in together and did that whole fightiong, I'm moving out thin, but always came back to eachother and then learned to cope with each others habits THAN got married. I would suggest it for all!!

People have no morals these days. When it gets hard...they leave. The truth is that marriage is hard and it takes work, Too many people think its easy, so they bail. How about a no bailing clause quarrantee or your money back?

I don't think we need to. Marriage between two mature adults usually turns out totally fine! Ours has been wonderful for almost 18 years! It's all in choosing the right spouse!
