This means put simply the the XP Operating system no longer works...You have to format & reinstall Windows from Scratch....
But as the other stated...if you Hard drive has gone bad then that would be the problem...corrupted data from Bad Sectors on the hard drive.

Before you jump to any hasty conclusions about formatting your hard drive or replacing it...
1.Make sure you don't have a bootable CD or USB drive or floppy hooked up. I used to get this with my last computer when I would leave a USB drive connected during power up. The BIOS would even change the boot order. Even though I had USB boot disabled.
2 Check your hard drive connectors & make sure that power & data cables are properly installed & not loose.
3. Go to your BIOS (Usually F2 or Del during boot) & see if it sees your hard disk properly.
4. Make sure your boot device priority order -in the BIOS also - is correct & that your hard disk is in it - make it the first if you have to.
5. If none of that works use your XP install disk & boot up & try to repair windows. This is an excellent opurtunity to copy files you want to keep if you can't recover. You have to do it manually but it beats losing them.
Good luck.

My sister has this on her laptop, unfortunetly it is the blue screen of death, she has had it looked at and has got to have an upgrade on her laptop now which has been quoted at £60-00p,which isn't too bad,it is all down to the amount of info which has been put into the pc/laptop,the problem with my sister is that my niece and friends have been copying dvds and cds etc and they dont realise just how much memory or space they have been using or used, they never delete anything but carry on doing the same thing day after day etc.
This is what my sister has been told by the repair man anyway,it may be true, then maybe a repair scam, somehow i dont think so . so what i advise is to check around for a hard drive upgrade.Best of luck anyway.

When this happened to me the hard drive was wrecked. Sounds right if you cant get into safe mode or reboot from disk.

If you can go into BIOS make sure that your CD rom is top of the list. Move it to the top if it is not. Exit BIOS and reboot with your Windows cd and re install. You will need the code (usually on top of your hard drive) and a couple of hours to spare.!
