Books, Newspapers, Exercise, musical instruments, all of these are productive forms of activity that serve to benefit you on some mental/physical level.
But forget all of the above, Yahoo! Answers is much more beneficial, how much time do you spend on this site? and Why? (Apart from the obvious 'questions' answer)

Too much time - you can get hooked on yahoo so I can spend hours at a time on it.

Varies but many days 5 or 6 hours.Not much else to do. I am a retired widower living on my own.I read my morning and evening papers and I watch TV a bit,but there is not a l ot on in the day time that interests me. I do my own shopping but that doesn't take long.I do my own washing a couple of times a week ,get my own meals and wash up.A little bit of house work .not a lot,I have a lady come in. This still leaves an awful lot of time to kill and that is where Q/A comes in.I like the variety of the questions,some really stupid. others desperate cries for help.I try to help or advise with my answers where I can The mental bit keeps my mind active.I feel very gratified sometimes when I have a best answer and the asker comments that they found my answer very helpful or informative.It's what Q/A is all about isn't it.

Ever since I've discovered the Optical section under the Health category (I'm an Optician), I've been wasting WAY TOO MUCH time...now its like I'm working, even when I'm not. But its fun for me to answer questions about something that I know so much about and have devoted the last 11 years of my life to.

5 or 6 hours a day altogether.
I am off work with mental illness at the moment. I have PTSD, Chronic Grief and Depression. Being on YA helps me to stay in touch with the real world. Its like being part of a community and having friends different parts of the world.

i dont really know.
i only answer a few questions sometimes
and sometimes i answer loads of questions
btw i play the piano for 2 hours a day and read a different book every few nights so im not exactly going on this site because im bored.

I spend about 5-6 hrs 5 days a week.... wow I never really noticed how much time I'm waisting on here. But I won't change...
It's too much fun, and my day goes by fast, here at work!

i spend about an hour or so, but i do other things at the same time, like chat 2 me mates on msn. its a good time pass as u learn new things and help people too. sometimes i get fed up though, but hardly ever.
