I have often heard that the circle or sphere is the most energy efficient shape found in nature. Is this true, and is it the most structually sound or efficient shape?

Your first question isn't clear. As for the second one, it depends entirely on how the structure is loaded. A spherical shell is the most efficient shape for a diving bell if your goal is to enclose a given volume with the least amount of metal to hold off the pressure.

For "energy efficiency", the sphere has the lowest surface for a given volume. Therefore, a heated sphere will cool down slower than any other body made from the same material.

For "structurally sound", you must first define the purpose. An empty sphere subjected to uniform external pressure is also the most sound structure, as the material will be subjected to exactly the same stress in all points; other shapes will not distribute stress with the same evenness, so there will be regions with lower stress and regions with higher stress (which will yield first, and at lower external pressure than a sphere would). Batiscaphs (used for exploring deep sea) are spheres, or have a shape close to it.

Yes, the sphere is the most energy efficient shape. That's why bubbles end up that way.

yes of course the spherical shape is the most energy efficient shape found in nature......

you can take the example of a water droplet which assumes the shape of a sphere because of its surface tension.......cause the spherical shape has the least surface area for the given volume showing it is the strongest shape for the water to assume.....

i think the most structurally sound would be the egg. eggs have an amazingly hard shell. you should try it some time. take a chicken egg, then start setting your textbooks on it. it will take several before it breaks.so sphere is the strongest. i would be guessing but i would also say a mountain (lol)

regrettably, it incredibly is in simple terms considered one of a protracted checklist of evidences of the lack of ability of situation China has for its electorate, and positively, for something of the worldwide. the only element important to them is the almighty Yuan. i do no longer undergo in ideas the right form, yet hundreds of them die in coal mining injuries each year. And hundreds of persons have been given contaminated with AIDS simply by fact the corporate accumulated their blood, extracted the money making element from it, and then reinfused it. regrettably, they did no longer separate the guy collections yet fairly saved all of it jointly in one pool. So one individual who had AIDS subsequently contaminated each donor. There are factors the place there is not any water to drink that has no longer been heavily polluted by utilising business runoff of one form or yet another. the situation isn't plenty with the bulbs themselves, besides the certainty that they do incorporate a small quantity of mercury and could be disposed of precise, yet with the insistence on paying for them from somebody who does not care how their manufacture impacts its very own human beings.
