I find the profession interesting and was wondering where they find most of their info! Surely its through the internet.

Thankyou in advance.

a lot of it is just grunt work slogging through the internet

an amazing ( or dangerous amount ) is available

try various lists - 411.com etc etc etc
try google

search in different ways
put a ( pair of brackets around names)
if you find something follow it and see where it leads in the same way on search engies

try the other search engines - yahoo , msm

meta search engines - dogpile ,clusty

Once you find something go on from there
You can find an amazing amount for free in open free areas. You can pay as well on private sites if need be

It is amazing even if you have name , or a geneal name and zip code you can start hunting in a state or area and phone the others -you will usually get a family member of someone who has a similar name and tell you all about the other person / dispreputble individual

Takes time and thoroughness

Yes it is mainly through the internet. But they have access to police records that as we could not get the records with being a detective or private i. Their is a program on the internet called Net Detective. It cost and well it does give you quite abit information. Anyone can get this program.

they find alot of info online depending on what they are looking for. if it's a person they will search through electoral registers and maps to find where people live and befriend people in that area while they get nearer to the case there working on. they also use all sorts of other information they can find. even at times phoning neighbours houses and just asking general none specific questions.

I'm not sure. But I do know that law enforcement has a program to read peoples messages on myspace. Just in case kids talk about bombing the school or planning to do any bodily harm to other students.
