The memory on your Ipod is stored magnetically so if it gets too close to the speakers it could corrupt your data!

When you say your mains I assume your speaking about your house stereo? If this is the case no harm will come to your Ipod because the speakers have their own amp. 12Watts is an extremely low wattage for speakers so I would imagine the ipod would have enough umph to drive them itself. Once again I assume 12watts was a typo. Now I know to assume makes and "A$$out of U and ME" so what I've said here may not apply. Though the magnetic properties of speakers can harm data on magnetic storage devices though I don't think that was your question.
