If you can make money with your hobby, you can call it a craft. LOL seriously I think there's a lot of overlap. You can get in even MORE trouble if you try to define the difference between and ART and a CRAFT.

A craft is building or creating. A hobby is doing or collecting. However, I buy craft things at a hobby store and hobby things at a craft store. My model train is a hobby, while the model buildings and scenes I make are crafts. Seems somewhat interchangeable to me.

To me, a hobby is anything that you pursue purely for the enjoyment of the task and something that you do on a somewhat regular basis or as time allows. It is not something that you pursue for a living, do as part of your job or as a full-time sport. Stamp collecting, hiking, sewing, wood carving, reading, crafting, building robots, knitting etc. could all be considered hobbies.

A craft is something that you can make once, twice or as many times as needed/wanted. Or it can be the actual process of making things by hand--crafting. I might make something out of plastic canvas once and that would be considered a craft. But if I continually make things from plastic canvas I could say that my hobby was crafting items from plastic canvas.

I hope that makes sense. :)

A hobby is anything you do for enjoyment, outside of work. It can include sports, auto repair, reading, music, collecting salt and pepper shakers, things you do for pleasure.
Crafts are things that you make. They can be for money, or for pleasure, but a craft means that you will have something at the end that you created.

To me, a craft is creating an item yourself, with your hands and tools, while a hobby is more along the lines of an activity such as collecting, or racing, that doesn't result in a tangible object.

a craft makes something, a hobby can be collecting which isnt creating anything other than a group of things, sports are also hobbies, since you arent making an object.

To me a hobby is something you do for your own enjoyment and may share with people close to you.

A craft is something you may take classes to learn or have a natural ability or talent that you excel at that makes it something others would like to own or learn to do themselves. A craft would be displayed publicly in competition or for sale.
It could be any hand-made item.

Otherwise I would use the words inter-changeably.

A craft is generally something you practice and can profit from, A hobby is more or less something you do just for the fun of it or to relieve boredom!

Hobby is something you enjoy doing and making and not make any money out of it (example, biking, kayaking, kite flying, fix cars for free, building small wooden boxes for give aways) Craft is something you enjoy making and then selling them at craft fairs and flea markets.
