Well, I would say lyrics first, but if the melody or rhythm isn't there, it might as well be a poem. It needs to be good as a whole.

Melody and rhythm plays a huge part but the lyrics make it worth hearing... There is always some sort of way songs can link to something in our lives or someone we know that makes them memorable... Although I say these three compliment each other, lyrics draw me in the most... And almost always, if the lyrics are great, so is the melody...

I would say the music. I don't always try to understand the lyrics, I just like to dance to the rhythm.

With any song that I like it is the mean of the song that means the most. Songs are so powerful with there words. How they can compell your emotions, and or make you think of a certain memory, make you happy, or sad, cry your eyes out, or even remember a love, cherish a love or end love. Songs that express feelings and inner conflict are some of the most powerful, and that is why so many people love music because of how they speak to you on a deeper level. Tell you a story or make you relate to a time in your own life. That is the power of a song to me.

im a lyrics person. i love it when a song tells a story. even if the music is weird and i don't like it too much, i could love the song based on its lyrics. if it has good music and bad lyrics i get sick of it in about 2 weeks.

For me lyrics are important however there are alot of songs that have stupid nonsensical lyrics but the music is beautiful, a song with a stupid beat hardly appeals to me.

The music is most important to me, then I pay attention to the lyrics. I feel lucky if the artist/group can do both well.

the lyrics are the most important...but with sucky music, even the best lyrics are a bad song.

So really, you need both.
