My friend is paralyzed on his left side from a stroke. It would make things worlds easier for him and me if the passenger (bucket) seat could swivel - meaning his legs could be facing forward (toward the hood) or he could pivot to get out of the truck and his body and legs be facing outside of the passenger door. Is there a bracket or a special seat for this? I know of the device (~$30.00) you can place on the seat but I want the WHOLE SEAT to swivel. It would be safer and for him, I NEED safe!

73-77 Chevelle, Laguna and Monte Carlo's had a swivel bucket seat option--my 75 had em. You could try doing a web search for them or try some local salvage yards and see if they can locate one for you. Only other thing I can think of would be a swivel boat seat mount---some shop would have to fabricate a mounting plate for it either way and the car swivel seat has the feature of locking in forward facing position whereas the boat seat swivel may not---not sure if anyone will do it because of liability laws but some handicap conversion company might.

Chick, There are businesses that do nothing but adapt regular vehicle to accomodate special needs. Generally you can find them in the yellow pages under van conversions or handicap lifts/ramps. In the early 70's GM did offer the option and as the others answered you MAY find the mechanism in the salvage yard. Problem may be that we're talking over 30 years ago & many salvage yards have long ago crushed and recycled those oldies. The larger yards are linked by computer and work from one anothers inventory. If one is available they'll know. The lazy susan thing you referenced is not very comfy. The old mechanism, should you find one could be modified to fit your existing seat. So, there are a couple of options. Take your pick, uh, Chick.

I owned a Monte Carlo in the 70's that had swivel bucket seats. Try a junk yard.

I know this doesn't exactly solve your problem but i just wanted to tell you that i once owned a chev. el camino that had factory swiveling bucket seats. So there have been some exactly like you want made. Maybe you could find a used seat that does it.
