I am having to put on new hoses in my car and can't seem to get the darn trans cooler hose on. I can only get it on about 1/2 an inch. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Is there an easier way to do it?

There's many sizes for hoses and your new hose must be too small. Make sure to buy new hose compatible with transmission fluid and get several sizes to make sure at least one fits. You may be trying to slip a hose over a flared metal transmission line that originally mated up to the vehicle's transmission oil cooler in the radiator. If so, you can cut the flared end off with a hacksaw or tubing cutter so that the hose slides onto the metal transmission line and can be clamped with stainless steel worm drive clamps. The main problem you run into is when the new hose fits one end of the connection and not the other. Sometimes you even need an adapter interface pipe that changes the diameter to the same diameter as the other end of the hose.

Put water (wich will evaporate) on the fitting. If you use WD-40 or soap it will slip on easily but it will also slip off easily, too. If teh vehicle does not have a cooler bypass valve then ATF flows to the cooler even when it's zero degrees and the ATF is really thick. So you will get the max pressure and a failure when it's really cold and when you don't want to be outside under your vehicle We (auto manufacturer) use 200 parts water and 1 part Merpol.

Grip the hose with a pliers and find a fulcrum point on the vehicle.

Twist the hose bck and forth.

If you put a worm (aka screw) clamp on the hose afterward be sure to re-tighten it in a few weeks as they tend to loosen over time. Put a 2nd screw clamp on. Or the OEM clamp and a screw clamp.

What vehicle?

Make sure the inside diameter of the hose is close to or the same as the outside diameter of the pipe it's going on----spray some WD-40 or a little liquid soap on the pipe and inside the hose and twist as you're pushing it on....then double clamp the two together.
