I have no idea how it works but I probably won't use it.
I love it when I ask a question that is so totally off of the wall and absurd and yet many take it seriously and not only do they call me names in their answers but they also send me hate mail. I once asked what was more important, taking care of the kids or reaching level seven. I received over 25 hate mails. It made me laugh. Why would I block the very people who spend so much time entertaining me?

Yeah, you can just roll over the person's avatar, or go to their page and click on it and then you'll never see another answer or question from them, and they won't see yours. It's meant for trolls, but I just asked a question too about how most people will put it to use and how it will affect the highly divisive environment of the Politics section.
EDIT: Hey, I was wrong about the details. You can still see their questions and answers. I think they are prevented from that the other way around though.

I'm not sure if I'll use it.
I went to the ya page on it.
It was meant for trolls. Ya will track who blocks and gets blocked, and take appropriate action.
There must be a threshold value of acquired blocks.
Something like 12 blocks and you get a couple of points deducted, 100 blocks and you're out.
Clean no, blaming Ya, it was done by your peers.

It works by simply clicking on the users profile name and there is a NEW feature that appears that says, "Block User" by simply clicking on it. It works great so far. I've blocked several trolls and it works.

.There is a block use button near the top of their profile page. Yes I think I will use it in extreme cases. Though it seems to me that it will group extreme thinkers together as they wont be blocking each other but will be blocked by many. When you group extreme thinking people together into like minded groups it usually pushes them farther from the center.

Click on the avatar for the profile view and click block user. I'll use it for some of the trolls myself.

It keeps them from getting into your profile and following you around. I plan on using it on a couple of the conspiracy nuts and a few of those people who ask the same repetitive questions over and over again. Chickenhawk comes to mind here. Other than that, I'll probably not use it.

SURE
RedsStater activists meet in Yahoo Groups discuss who to attack. Then come on to YA and attack users they disagree with.
Typically 4 or 5 paid activists can report someone enough to get them deleted in less than 24 hours.
When I was a Black GOP member (43) I was offered an invitation to an off site forum where such plots were spawned.

Click on John Does Avatar and block him. I believe it will keep him from being able to post to you or email you.
