The run times for each zone do not overlap and other zones are running in sequence. it's only zones 8, 9, and 10 that will all start up (within seconds) when any one of them is activated.

Most sprinkler systems use solenoid valves for opening the zones. One or more of yours may be "hanging up" and remaining open when they should be closed. Could be an electrical problem or bad/clogged seats on the valves.

Try connecting different valves to zones 8,9,10 and see if the problem stays there. If the problem goes away then one by one reconnect the original valves...most likely one will be the problem. If the problem stays even with the different valves connected then the controller might be the problem. There might be a "dip" switch on the controller printed circuit board which is not set properly. Check set up instructions. If the controller once operated correctly and this is a new problem then there are other problems with the printed circuit board. Good luck.

Is your controller modular? My first thought is that zones 8,9 and 10 are on the same module and the module is shorted- anytime voltage is sent to the module all zones on that module are opened.
