I have bought several games and was not a fan of any until BF 2142--can anyone recommend another that I might like? I do not want anything overly complex but something that is fun and easy to get started. If I do not catch on fairly quick, I junk it. I also liked resident Evil 4 (not online) and of course the Doom games.
Thanks!

PS I had horrible problems with half life 2 not working properly on my system so it got 86'ed as well.

You can try BF2 and it's sequels. It has a basic version of the 2142 rank and unlock systems...although the 2142 persistance unlocks don't exist.
Unreal Tournament 2004 is nice...quite popular too.
Far Cry is great...especially the environments.
Although there are no local servers (they seem to all be in Europe, where the authoring group is based), and the authors are no longer supporting it, the Eastern Front mod for CoD:UO is great.
If you like exceptionally fast-paced games, Quake 4 seems very popular.

I have Rogue Trooper and Breed on my computer as well, and keep coming back to them. In Breed's case, as with the CoD:UO Eastern Front Mod, there are few servers with decent ping times, as the US games industry has apparently spread horrible rumours about it because it is an Australian product.

Having said all this, despite the evidence to the contrary (see above) - with the exception of Quake, which is not on my computer - I am not a fan of FPS games. I prefer strategic / tactical games (such as Sid Meyer's Alpha Centauri, Civilisation titles, etc).

Try war rock. It's an online FPS game. I also added some pics. The game is also free. Check out the gameplay footage. The game can be downloaded at warrock.net.
