Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd. It's not really a baby song, it's a mother giving her grown son advice but I love that song. Makes me wish I had a son to sing it to.

How about an old classic, sung to children through out the ages?
'Mama's Gonna Buy You A Mockingbird'

It can usually be found on any lullaby albums, Cd's, etc., and the lyrics can be found online, if needed.

One of the greatest things about this lullaby is that it can be changed, so Daddy can sing it as well!

Starts off with:

Hush little baby, don't say a word,
Mama's gonna buy you a mockingbird
And if that mockingbird don't sing,
Mama's gonna buy you a diamond ring
Etc., etc....

I don't know of any child who does not enjoy being rocked, as this is sung to them, either by their Mother, Father, Grandparents, Babysitter, etc.

My 2 sons and my 4 Grandbaby's have all enjoyed this throughout the years.

Many lullaby Cd's are out there for you to listen to and sing along with in order to learn the words.

P.S. You don't have to wait until your son is born, start singing now! He will enjoy it and the sound of Your voice is the best lullaby in the world!

Rascal Flatts "My Wish"

I hope the days come easy and the moments pass slow
And each road leads you where you want to go
And if you're faced with the choice and you have to choose
I hope you choose the one that means the most to you
And if one door opens to another door closed
I hope you keep on walking till you find the window
If it's cold outside, show the world the warmth of your smile
But more than anything, more than anything

Chorus
My wish for you is that this life becomes all that you want it to
Your dreams stay big, your worries stay small
You never need to carry more than you can hold
And while you're out there getting where you're getting to
I hope you know somebody loves you and wants the same things too
Yeah, this is my wish

I hope you never look back but you never forget
All the ones who love you and the place you left
I hope you always forgive and you never regret
And you help somebody every chance you get
Oh, you find God's grace in every mistake
And always give more than you take
But more than anything, yeah more than anything

Chorus twice

This is my wish
I hope you know somebody loves you
May all your dreams stay big

I heard this song for the first time when I was just a few weeks pregnant, and every time I hear it I get teary eyed, especially now that my son is here. Hopefully it works for you too.

Sarah Evans, "You'll always be my baby"
There I was ten years old
waiting in my room for him to come home
I just knew he'd be so mad
though I begged my mother not to, she told my dad.
There was no denying I let him down
but instead of being angry
he put his arms around me and said

in the sunlight or the rain brightest nights or darkest days
I'll always feel the same way
whatever road you may be on
no your never too far gone my love is there wherever you may be
just remember that you will always be my baby.

There I was twenty one
oh I was so ashamed of what I'd done
on a country road
parked one night
it started out so innocent
then crossed the line
there was no denying
I let God down
but instead of being angry
he wrapped his arms around me and I heard
in the sunlight or the rain brightest nights or darkest rains
I'll always feel the same way
whatever road you may be on
no your never too far gone
my love is there wherever you may be
just remember that you will always be my baby yeah yeah.

There he is my little man
I'm sure he'll get in trouble every now and then
and I pray to god that when he does
I'll be just as understanding
and my father was oh the last thing that I want to do is let him down
so instead of being angry
I'm gonna throw my arms around him and I'll say

in the sunlight or the rain brightest nights or darkest rains
I'll always feel the same way whatever road you may be on
noo your never too far gone
my love is there wherever you may be

Godspeed or Lullaby by the Dixie Chicks. Godspeed has some great little lines in it for baby boys.

Also try the Curious George Soundtrack by Jack Johnson.

Billy Joels got another good one that starts - good night my love its time to sleep - cant remember the rest of it.

There are some wonderful CD's out there with songs and lullabies for babies and children. Check your music store. The CD's have a brochure inside with the words to all the songs.

Beautiful Boy-John Lennon

Close your eyes
Have no fear
The monster's gone
He's on the run and your daddy here

** Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
Beautiful boy
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
Beautiful boy **
Before you go to sleep
Say a little prayer
Every day in every way
It's getting better and better

Repeat **

Out on the ocean sailing away
I can hardly wait
To see you come of age
But I guess we'll both just have to be patient
'Cause it's a long way to go
A hard row to hoe
Yes it's a long way to go
But in the meantime

Before you cross the street
Take my hand
Life is what happens to you
While you're busy making other plans

Repeat **

Before you go to sleep
Say a little prayer
Every day in every way
It's getting better and better

Repeat **

"So in Love" by Cole Porter.

I think it was meant as a romantic song, but for me it really describes the complete and overwhelming love I felt toward my daughter when she was born. It is the first thing I sang to her after she was born and when I sing it to her now she always smiles a huge smile.

As there are no specific genders mentioned it would also work for your son.

I'm not 100% sure of the exact lyrics; I'm just working from memory here; but it goes something like this:

-----------
Strange dear, but true dear, is my love for you dear,
The stars fill the sky,
So in love, with you, am I.

Even without you, my arms fold about you
You know darling why,
So in love with you am I

In love with the night mysterious,
The night that you first were there,
In love with my joy delerious
when I knew that you could care.

So taunt me, and hurt me,
decieve me, desert me,
I'm yours 'til I die!
So in love, so in love,
so in love with you, my love, am I!
---------------

Gosh! It still brings tears to my eyes!

Congratulations and good luck!

THIS MAY SOUND CORNY... or some people may not like her.... but britney spears wrote a song for her first son, it`s called someday.

"Someday"

[Verse 1:]
Nothing seems to be the way
That it used to
Everything seems shallow
God give me truth
In me
And tell me somebody is watching
Over me
And that is all I'm praying is that

Someday I will understand
In God's whole plan
And what he's done to me
Oh but maybe
Someday I will breathe
And I'll finally see
I'll see it all in my baby

[Verse 2:]
Don't you run too fast my dear
Why don't you stop?
Just stop and listen to your tears
They're all you've got
It's in you
You see somebody is watching
Over you
And that is all I'm praying is that

Someday you will understand
In God's whole plan
And what he does to you
Oh but maybe
Someday you will breathe
And you'll finally see
You'll see it all in your baby
You'll see it all in your baby

No moment
Will be more true
Than the moment
I look at you

It's in you
You see somebody is watching
Over you
And that is all I'm praying is that

Someday you will understand
In God's whole plan
And what he does to you
Oh but maybe
Someday you will breathe
And you'll finally see
You'll see it all in your baby
You'll see it all in your baby
You'll see it all in your baby
You'll see it all in your baby

Simple Man- Lynyrd Skynyrd

Mama told me when I was young
Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say.
And if you do this
It will help you some sunny day.

Take your time... dont live too fast,
Troubles will come and they will pass.
Go find a woman and youll find love,
And dont forget son,
There is someone up above.

(chorus)
And be a simple kind of man.
Be something you love and understand.
Be a simple kind of man.
Wont you do this for me son,
If you can?

Forget your lust for the rich mans gold
All that you need is in your soul,
And you can do this if you try.
All that I want for you my son,
Is to be satisfied.

(chorus)

Boy, dont you worry... youll find yourself.
Follow you heart and nothing else.
And you can do this if you try.
All I want for you my son,
Is to be satisfied.

(chorus)
