I have just went from DSL back to dial-up and I am having all kinds of problems. I knew the speed would change, but not everything else in my computer. It acts a lot like there could be a virus, but there is no reason for it. It is freezing a lot and in different places, kicking off a lot and two isp's have not been able to get me on line.

Dial-up and Local Area Connection (DSL) Internet connections are separate programs in the computer. They can both be in the computer and you can choose which one to use. They do not interfere with each other. (In fact you can be connected on DSL and connect using dial-up and the computer and serf with dial-up)

Whatever dial-in problem you have is NOT related to DSL.

In the network connections make sure that the TCP/IP is set to obtain an IP address automatically and that DNS is set to obtain DNS automatically.

If it kicks you off after reading e-mail make sure that you don't have Outlook Express set to disconnect after downloading e-mail.

If the modem problem continues try uninstalling the modem (electronically) and restart the computer and let Windows reinstall the modem.

Update and run your Anti-virus program also install and run a spyware/malware program. Spybot and Ad aware are two excellent free programs.

Good Luck

Do you even have a regular modem?
