So this may be due to certain websites that I've accessed but my computer is completely useless! I am using the home computer right now, that's how bad it is. I cannot use any programs on my computer, as they will open, then freeze and i can't get them unfrozen, so scanning the system is not an option, as the computer won't run any programs without freezing. I don't know what to do!! Help!!

To little info to give you a correct answer.

Try scanning in safe mode with network.
Tap F8 when booting your computer. Choose safe mode with network.

Start in safe mode with network.
Start -> Run: and type iexplore http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html... (Enter/OK)
Scan your computer.
If you fin something; delete it. Restart and do the same again. When the scanner finds nothing this scan is finish.

Reboot again in safe mode with network.
Start -> Run: type iexplore http://www.ewido.com/en (Enter/OK)
Scan your computer.
If you fin something; delete it. Restart and do the same again. When the scanner find nothing this scan is finish.

*NOTE: Do not surf the net or open any programs when doing this scans. This because you can start spyware/adware/viruses manually.

Now your computer is clean and you can reboot back to normal mode.

Now you need to download some security if you don't have it.

If the operating system will load it's not the hard drive. Programs freezing indicates file corruption. You are most likely infected since you admit going to those special web sites. You may want to try scanning your PC in safe mode. (tapping F8 key while computer is booting) if you still can't get anything to load, you need to do a system restore then scan or even just reload windows. System restore will not remove virus' so reloading windows is the only definate. Invest in Panda internet security 2007 after you reload.

I would try a complete restore--hopefully you have your important programs on disks, and can reinstall them. Turn off your pc, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on. Be quick, you only have a few seconds to hit the right button--on my pc its F11. If you are too slow try again. On some pc s you can do a total restore or one that saves your programs--total is probably better in your case. This has worked for me in situations like yours--hope it helps you. :)

Either...
1. You have low RAM and need to install more because you have a lot of crap installed

2. You have a virus

3. You're power supply or fan is malfunctioning which would cause your system to freeze.

Your hard drive or mother board might be going bad. Try replacing the hard drive.
