Such cheap labor will only drive down wages for all U.S. citizens. Isn't that contrary to all the Democratic Party represents?

The Democratic National Committee takes large contributions from corporations, just like the Republicans do.

They have to cave in on labor issues to make the big money contributors happy.

Welcome to the global slave labor economy. Neither party will stand up for your rights.

Democrats have not represented labor for years, although the Unions still support the Democratic Party.
The Unions are pointing this out to the Dem's but as usual the Dem's just do not care, and the Unions will continue to vote for the Dem's (not the brightest strategy apparently).

The Democratic Party has not represented alot of its old constituently in years (nearly 2 decades now). It's sad.

The dirty little secret here is that country club republicans think it will provide a source of cheap labor. The more moderate republicans think it will provide needed workers to support he baby-boomers when they retire. President Bush thinks it will mean more God fearing, hard working, traditional family values Republican voters.

The democrats think it will mean a large new constituency of needy poor who will seek government programs and as a result will vote democrat in some of the most desirable electoral college states.

The labor unions are hoping they will be able to organize and unionize these people, too.

Problem is not always cheap labor. Las Vegas hires plenty of illegals in the hotels and they are paid well and represented by the union. Management breaks all union rules by making them work long hours at full speed ahead. Something they would never be able to get away with by hiring an American. They don't report it because they get paid so well and they are afraid to report it. Illegal aliens are not always underpaid but when they are they companies who hire them do not always pass those savings on to the consumer. They just keep the profits.

One would think so, huh? Democrats for the people, the working folkes, the blue collar worker, never mind that they have been pro illegal all along. And the Republicans, friends to big business, etc. Don't you think we need an independant to run who is for America as we knew her to be before politics buried her own Constituiton and laws on the Senate and House floors ? It's time for an American to run for president, not a rich power hungry millionaire who only cares about his own stocks and businesses flourishing? Where is an Abe Lincoln when you really need one? I've always wondered why all presidents are millionaires? But hey, we could use another Ike for president, too! I just want someone to care about our country as a whole for once, how about you?

Because they see immmigrants as a major voting block for democrats. The democrats are confounded by this bill because it pretty much gives them what they've been complaining about for years. The only problem is they didn't come up with it! Now, after years of saying that the US needs to welcome immigrants, and that Bush is against imigrants, and all kinds of other rot, they get a republican president promoting an illegal immigrant amnesty bill and it pisses them off because it gives them one less thing to throw at the repulicans.

No one supports it anymore than George Bush, but then again his sister-in-law and niece and nephew are Hispanic. You got it backwards, the Democrats, especially Barack Obama want to secure the borders. The Republicans want the cheap labor for big business. You are misinformed.
