I was wondering this while watching a game a week or so back. Ottawa and Anaheim were really moving the puck quickly, and there were no whistles for a long time. So, that's the question. I was wondering if there's ever been say,a whole period, with no whistles.

um... good question. probably a period but I don't have the proof. in the 80's when delayed offsides first took effect and before the advent of the trap it wasn't unusual to go well over 5 minutes and sometimes 10 without a whistle. I would imagine they've gone close to a period before.

I am a season ticket holder for the AHL Houston Aeros, the top farm team for the Wild. I know of one time where they went just under 9 minutes without a whistle. I noticed because I had gone to get something to eat and had just made it to the top of the aisle when they held us up at the start of the play. I had finished dinner before they let us go. That is the longest I have seen.

The NHL has three "TV" timeouts per period. I believe this is even true of games not be televised.

Hockey never had stalling tactics like basketball did before the shot clock but some embarassing stuff happens. I am talking about real lopsided games where nobody cared or games where both sides were happy to get the one point. I am talking about games no one wants to talk about.
