My gf is going on the contraceptive pill soon. She is worried about gaining a lot of weight. I, personally am not shallow and have NO problem with that whatsoever. But i thought I'd do my research in advance so I can be more supportive and reassuring.
Is there a statistical percentage? And how much is she likely to gain?

I do hope this question hasn't offended anyone..
And just to make clear- I have NO problem either with her being on the pill OR gaining weight. But I fear she might and just want to be ready in case she gets upset.

Shes most likely not to gain weight. Most people don't. I've just gone on it about a month ago and I've gained no weight, although I've had some stomach upsets, which are a side effect, theres a leaflet in the packet of pills you get, or there should be. But she shouldn't gain weight, and its not too bad! Good luck.

No there is no statistical percentage. Worrying about it will be more bothersome than actually gaining weight.
Also, not all pills have the same side effects. There are different preparations.
There are also many different contraceptive methods. Before you and your girlfriend - if you were both ever sexually active before you met - go without condoms be sure that BOTH of you have screenings for sexually transmitted infections.
Just to name one - Chlamydia - has little to no symptoms and can be spread without your partner even knowing it. It can scar fallopian tubes and cause infertility.
Pregnancy is the very least of your worries when having unsafe sex.
Remember herpes is for life.

You only gain weight if you find it hard to control your weight anyway.I find it makes you more hungry than usual but you'll only gain weight if you eat more not directly from taking the pill. I've been taking the pill for 7 years & I've never put on any weight. Hope this helps!

Hi, Iv been on the pill now for around 4 years. Usually you put on around half a stone. depending the pill ou are on. its not fatty fat, its like water retntion fat. as long as she keeps up a healthy life style then this wont be such a poblem. you dont balloon 19 stone at once. its about keeping your lifestyle the same, maybe walk that extra distance. park your car further away from where you need to be, or get the bus stop after the one you usually go to.

tell your girl friend not to worry at all. you dont even notice the change. like i say, its important to have a healthy life style, im not talking gyms or anything...just getting a packet of grapes rather than a choccy bar (warning-never refuse her though if she demands a choccy bar!!! that dangerous!!!)

It depends on a woman and her organism. My weight, for example, has been really stable, emotional state as well (even better than before taking the pill)... plus going on the pill will likely increase the satisfaction of your sex life (hers cause she'll be more able to relax, and yours cause you'll know that fact;)) So, I'm totally FOR the pill, and really nothing to worry about.

All women are of course different - but the long and the short of it is...yes, she probably will. The pill will be tricking her body into thinking it's pregnant and it can cause her to gain weight.

Some girls do but not a massive amount. If she does sometimes they just change the pill to another one to see if that helps. However personal experience... i never put on any weight

She might gain weight, she might LOSE weight, or she might no experience weight changes at all. If she does, then she should consult her doctor because he might prescribe a different pill for her.

Not everyone gains weight when on it. The pill DOES'NT make you you put on weight, it increases your appetite...
