It's interesting that no one ever asks the women what they think about it.
We don't like it. Most of us anyway.
Since no one would ever be born if it wasn't for us, maybe you should start asking yourself that.
But if you're gonna' start this up in China again you're gonna' have an even bigger problem, they don't have enough women to go around because of parents killing baby girls over the last two decades so they could have a boy in the "only one child per family" era.
And then if you are able to do this, you have another problem. Which wife gets to have the one child? If you disobey the law you make an overpopulation problem worse.

Quit thinking with your peni* and start being logical and equitable.

Otherwise, maybe we women of the world should start requiring that men prepay us a huge fee to have children and once the check clears we can copulate. They can visit their children on their birthday and certain holidays and then go home. Of course, not all women will go for this and so the ones who will could be called Professional Mothers. We women should eliminate marriage altogether worldwide.

You know what they say - get to greedy and wind up with nothing.

"Having a wife" implies possession or ownership, an idea who's time has thankfully expired. In older cultures blood ties were often expressly commercial, and the marraige contract was not an outgrowth of preferred intimacy. Marraiges were arranged, and spouses were, in effect, purchased. In today's egalitarian societies, those considerations are subordinated, though not entirely out of the picture. Individuals are stronger, more self-willed, and family structures are weaker. The dowry has gone the way of the harem, and I wouldn't expect them to return, and I'd worry if they did. "Having" more than one wife is unlikely under these conditions, but if more than one woman decides they are crazy about you and would love to share you with one another in a state of marital harmony, I'm sure they'll let you know. But don't hold your breath.

Ben, honestly....you must not be married. America is no where culturally near China or anywhere else. American women are not like any other cultural group of women. An independant American woman would not stand for another woman to be in the picture.

On a funny note, if she (the other wife) liked to cook and clean, we might be able to strike up a deal (joking).

In ancient Chinese culture, it is skewed towards monogamous marriages. Only the noble classes like Emperors or the ultra rich have concubines. Even so, their reason for having second wives must be because of the failure of the first to produce a heir. In every culture, it is more important that the man must be rich enough to support more than one wives before they are allowed.

Well, I currently have a husband, and I could think of many uses for a husband AND a wife, but I'm content with what I've got.

I don't care to have more headaches, so No, but I wish marriage was more open. I know I'm not going to draw popular beliefs by saying that and it goes against morals, religious beliefs and respect for family values, but I think society would be so much better off if we all could have the freedom of open marriage. Hey, we live once. Why can't we explore intimacy/sexuality with more than one person.

Now -- I don't think its right going off and screwing whoever you want. I do believe in being safe about it (disease free) and not hurting children or family along the way. I do have my limits.

I think it's barbaric. And why, if this is the rule, shouldn't women be allowed more than one husband? It should be equal!
Heaven forbid it should be the case in western society...I definitely wouldn't want another husband...one's as much as I can take!

Why would you even want 1 marriage much less more. Just use the woman as a play toy and all will be fine.

Ha! Considering how catty and jealous women can be towards each other, I think any man who wants more than one wife is just asking for trouble!
