Actually for me it seems to be fear that does.
I have decent morales but sometimes I want some pretty bad stuff..... It's the fear of getting caught and and being afraid of doing the things I think that stops me.

Its definitely both for me....I guess its about balance. We are human so we are going to step out of line once and awhile....it is inevitable, but most of us have morals or fear which gets us back on track. When I was growing up and people around me were experimenting with drugs and alcohol, I didnt participate because of fear....and thank God that fear is still with me today. I try to make decisions based on my morals, and knowing what is right and wrong, however the world is a big place and not everyone is going to think my decisions are ethical. Its all about intentions. If your intentions were good, but a situation turns out bad...God knows your heart and you will be judged on your intentions not outcome.

If I can roll ethics into morals, then that would keep me in line more than fear. I know what is right and what is wrong. I try and do things ethically or morally. I know what the consequences are of things and am willing to accept consequences if I do something wrong.
I know there are posted speed limits. If I choose to drive faster than the limit, I know what the consequences may be. I determine what degree of consequences I am willing to accept.
I don't think this is fear, really... more of a risk-benefit comparision.

both...
Cant choose one over the other.
Some are understandable. like dont kill, etc
But fear is really a matter of how desensitized you are.
A 12 year old can kill and be cold hearted about it if raised that way.
A 12 year old can sacrifice himself to save another too.
I'd go with morale over fear though. but its a fine line while for other it may not.

Morals. Whenever I have a desicion to make that involves right or wrong, I always put myself in the position of the person that may or may not be negatively affected.
I teach my kids the same. I never tell them dont do this or that because they may get into trouble or go to jail. I tell them that its wrong and that they wouldnt want the same thing done to them.

Fear actually keeps me in line. Fear of breaking the law, fear of failure, fear of disappointing others...you name it, I have it.
FYI, it's morals people. Morale is different.
