I thank god that my family equiped me to understand the nature of racism as it exists in the educational systems and poeple that I encountered growing up. Racists target the very young as they are the most vulnerable, and suceptable to their bigotry, particularly in educational systems. Internalizing the toxic emanations of such would have done a lot of damage to me if I had not been otherwise equiped. I see it in others who weren't as fortunate as myself and for them it could very well be too late. What do you do as a parent to equip your child so that they are sufficiently armed against the damaging affects of others ethnic bias, hatred, racial jealousy and intolerance?

And it's the teaching of the real history before kids are fed the half-truths and lies that masquerade as the truth. Check out Lie My Teacher Told Me & Lies Across America by James Loewen.....and with children, you stress time and agin that they respect people the way they want to be respected, and to tell the haters to just get the name right, 'cause the pub means the most.

I agree. I reported that account of boxingguy with the porn avatar who's probably the same as Pac Chiavelli. It's stuff like that which makes me not want to check the boxing section much these days. Lots of racism against Filipinos and Asians gets unnoticed, like how some here say americasfavoritethug is "funny". He's no more funny than Fred C is. Judah tweeting "I'm not racist I love everybody" is identical to what americasfavoritethug says - maybe he's really thug in disguise? Lol. Certainly there is racism against blacks too, like how Sean G apologized to Fred C despite him saying n**ger. He shouldn't have to apologize to a racist. What makes no sense to me is how some suggest racism from Mayweather, Hopkins, etc. is justified by racism from fans on the Web. On YA there's at least equal racism the other way around, and it's completely different when boxers themselves make these comments. For whatever reason, Hopkins/Mayweather/Judah/Haye have made racist comments but I can't think of any Asian boxer who has done the same, or anyone who has made comments against blacks in the last 20 years. Correct me if I'm wrong. Blacks were once wrongly denied from title fights at one point, but that was almost a century ago, and it was from white Americans, not Filipinos, Pakistanis, Mexicans, or eastern Europeans. In recent times, black boxers have caused the most racism, but that's not to say most are racist or there aren't humble ones like Andre Ward.

I think the same thing your parents did:educate. And also, try to instill in children a deep sense of right and wrong; it is very disturbing to know that our "correctional" prisions are the breeding ground of racists movements.

we as parents educate our children. Not only do we teach them about themselves and their heritage but we also teach them about others and that in a way we have all struggled.
That some people are ignorant and do not like what they do not understand. And that we are all beautiful because GOD made us in HIS image.

Racism and other isms start at home. Don't use hateful words in front of your children. If someone pissed you off at work, say this guy or that woman, not this N or that J.
Stop hatred at its beginnings.

Teach them there is right and wrong.

That PC needs to be eliminated. Intolerance is PC, especially when it's actions goes against your moral principles.

Good question.
But my thinking is that... our children now-a-days seems to be somehow programmed not to listen to a word we tell them.
