Now I know he still has a great arm and can out pitch most guys half his age, but come on everyone treats the guy like a god. He won't pitch like that forever. Do the yanks think Clemens will last very long? He waisted half the season with rumors of retirement and negotiations and he's struggling going more than a few innings when is on the mound. All that money and they could have gotten more bang for their buck. I want to know who else agrees with me.

You are right on!! The Yankees would have been far better off spending that 28 million dollars on a good rebuilding program. The fact is, Clemens is a self-serving, drama king who cares only for Roger. Right now he is still grabbing headlines as he yanks the Yankee's chain with a "groin" injury. The man has no moral courage and is a poor excuse for a person of integrity. If he had any, he would have retired years ago and spared the fans his nonsense and self-adulation.

Chow!!

I think his story is old and tired. If he really wanted to "help" a team, he would be there from the beginning of the season. Regardless of the team he pitches for. It also helps him to come in fresh when the other pitchers have already endured pitching as much as 75 to 85 innings this season.

I don't care how big a fan you are of Clemens. Face the fact that he is just out for the money and doesn't care about the Yankees. Clemens cares about Clemens. Does anyone honestly think he can turn the Yanks around? What, with 10 or 12 wins this year?

I've said for years that he's a great pitcher. But, he's also a punk. Yes, I said PUNK! Anyone notice that since he went to the NL he was no longer a head hunter? Wonder why? Hmmm? Maybe because he'd eventually get his dome scraped off by guys like Martinez and Peavy. Watch and see if he starts throwing at the batters now. Bet he does. And what was that crap with the dang bat and Piazza? Must suck to act like a baby when a guy gets a hit off you. Seems like he would have gotten used to that since he'd pitched for 15 season or so.

He's a PUNK. When it comes to class and dignity, I'll take the other current 300+ game winner. Greg Maddux. He's a class act all the way.

You are very misinformed. First, the season is not half over. Second, everyone knows he won't last forever and this is why he has a 1 year contract. Third, he has pitched quite well and has gone more than a few innings in each of his starts. Fourth, it's not just the money that is factored into the aquisition of a player as the Yankees got the best pitcher on the market without having to give up any players.

It's really pathetic, the way that fans of other teams seem so concerned with how the Yankees spend their money. Face it, the Yankees are your favorite team. You all discuss the Yankees more than your own team.

If you were his age (and could still pitch like he does) and someone is stupid enough to give you a prorated amount of $28 mil, you may take it.

Now, if you are Clemens and you know you can't pitch effectively for 6 months, but you can for 4, what would you choose?

Start in March, play until August and stop.
Start in March, play until October and have the last two months suck
Start in June and last until October.

I would choose the last one.

Now, I wish he would have picked anyone else but the Yankees, this will make him the 4th 20+million player on the Yankees. (I think there are only 5 in all of baseball, Ramirez being the other)

It certainly reinforces what everyone without an NY on their forehead know, that there is no way their favourite team could complete in baseball without outspending everyone.
Somehow, that's ok with their fans and who are we to begrudge their "as long as we win" attitude. (I think that was Tanya Harding's attitude as well)

Yeah I'm tired of him, too. His ego is ridiculous. The guy really doesn't have any respect for the game. He makes teams fight over him, refuses to begin when the season does, refuses to go on road trips if he's not pitching. Can you imagine another player getting away with stuff like that? I hate to say it, but I don't think he's allowed to do this just because of what he's done as a pitcher, I think his skin color has a lot to do with it. I can't imagine a black player or Latino player getting away with doing stuff like this.

He's the greatest pitcher of our generation. I think he can stil pitch at a high level, however he can only go 6 innings tops...then the Yankee's terrible bullpen will blow it. I don't think he was worth the $$$ they spent on him.

I do. He's on my fantasy team. But seriously, no one is above the team. This guy clearly thinks he is the exception. I really wish the Yankees would terminate his contract and leave his as.s where the found him.
