I noticed that my friend's voice gets higher when she records her voicemail. I just left a message for my husband and noticed my voice went up a couple notches.

Does your voice change when you're on the phone?

Yes, because I am nervous when I talk on the phone so my voice sounds higher pitched.

Lol, also on my voice mail on my cellphone I exaggerated my Southern accent just to be silly. Everyone who hears it cracks up so I've left it like that.

I think it's on the same principal as when you're talking to someone who's a distance away from you. Even if you don't 'yell', your voice will go up so they can hear you better (seemingly). I've noticed this about myself and try to stop it, but it's really hard. Something in us seems to make us feel like people can hear us better if our tone of voice rises. Who knows, maybe it's true. Will have to try some experiments.

My voice is softer on the phone than in person. I'm not sure if it's because I've been in customer service for so long & they say a softer voice gets better results. I've been told I should do the phone sex thing. Not an option though. I dated a guy who's voice was waaay different in person than on the phone. He was softer & sexier on the phone.

Yeah, I've noticed this before. My phone voice is a little higher and there are more drastic changes in my tone compared my everyday speaking voice.

I've never noticed my voice change when I'm on the phone.
I know what you mean though. My sister's voicemail message is her using a high squesky, semi-sweet voice, when I know she actually sounds more like The queen of hearts from "Alice in Wonderland"..."Off with his head!!!!!!!" LOL.

Definitely, I tend to be nicer and More friendlier while talking on the phone, especially at work (I'm a receptionist). I've also noticed that some are extremely nice and others are just a little bit different. I'm just a little bit nicer but my sister, wow she really puts on a show when she's on the phone... you would think she was Mother Teresa... =)

Being a experienced radio character, I do modulate my voice for any microphone. i do no longer even think of roughly it anymore. It makes it much less confusing to understand what i'm saying. extra human beings could study how!

Yeah a little. I don't like my voice so I try not to play it back. I also don't leave messages on other people's machines, I hang up. (Sorry, annoying I know!)

Everyone says I sound just like my mother on the phone, and my voice is huskier and more Southern in real life.

It depends on who I'm talking to. With family, it's the same, but when I was working, my voice was softer when I was talking to patients. Sometimes you get mad patients when they have billing questions and it really helped to have a professional voice when talking to them.
