Okay, how do I hook it up so I can access to the internet at school? I work at this school, and I always bring my laptop, but could never get it hooked onto the internet! I'm using a cable cord, some one please help me with the steps! Thanks

And I don't mean by hacking, everyone is allowed to access the internet wiether its wireless or cable cords (they have outlets on each wall)

1) What is the school's policy on connecting personal equipment to the network? Some schools may have a policy that prohibits personal equipment and could have applications to detect connections. I'd really inquire with someone in the school office or the IT staff (either in the school or at the school board level).

2) To physically connect you probably need a CAT 5 Ethernet cable (unless of course the school's network is old enough to be Token Ring - but not likely). Your laptop would need the RJ45 port and you would need to plugin to an active RJ45 port on the network (guessing there will be at least one network drop in each classroom).

3) You'll need to know the configuration details on the school network. They may use DHCP to assign the IP address to connecting systems but I'm guessing you'll also need to specify a proxy server for your browser. Schools generally are setup to only allow Internet access via the proxy (so they can block particular sites).

Ask the IT department, or if there is no IT department, one of the Computer teachers.

If the school has wireless internet, you might be able to just get a login name and use it, if they don't you probably need an ethernet cable (available anywhere computer stuff is sold), an ethernet cable looks like a phone line, but the plugs on the ends are slightly bigger.

Your school Intranet is protected by a firewall, and possibly other security to keep kids from hacking into it. You will need special access to be able to get into the network from home.

How you do it will be determined by what security they are using, and will probably require special software and password(s) to get in.

You need to talk to whoever administers the school's computer system. They will be able to tell you how to get in - if you can.

(Sorry, but I am not going to post instruction for hacking yur schools network on a public forum. Hope you understand that)

Check with your Network Administrator or IT guy and ask if IP Address is needed in order to connect to the internet.

If there is an ethernet connection that you can hook it into, and your laptop has an ethernet connection, you should be able to plug into it that way. If you still have an issue, I would speak with someone you work with.
