Is there a moment in the history of this franchise that offended the hockey gods and may have caused a curse to be placed on them? Since they weren't even in the league from 1934 to 1992, it seems silly to say they haven't won the Stanley Cup since 1927. But it's not just that they lose in the Playoffs, it's that they look horrible doing it. In order to be considered "cursed," a team has to have not just postseason, or late-regular-season, flops, but there should be bizarre moments that can't be rationally explained. And there needs to be that defining moment why: Selling Babe Ruth, not letting the goat into Wrigley Field, burning the Garden mortage in the bowl of the Cup, and so on. What's the Senators' "curse moment"?

No, they are not cursed. That is silly. It is not like they are the only team that has not won it, including many teams that have been around a lot longer than they have. The fact is this: there are 30 teams in the league now. The odds are that a team can only win once every 30 years. If a team repeats, then the wait is even longer for the rest. It has nothing to do with curses, just simple statistics. The truth is that they were lucky this year to get as far as they did. The West, in general, had better defense and better goaltending then most of the East. Defense and goaltending wins championships. The Senators are lucky they did as well as they did. There is no curse.

...I second everything Ric said.

Doesn't anyone realize that while the Senators' 1st line was shut down (and then broken apart to generate more offense) in the Stanley Cup finals, they were still an offensive terror in all previous rounds of the playoffs this year? It's not like they finished in the 8th spot as far as the playoffs go. Ottawa was also a great team during the regular season after a bad start. Dany Heatley has back-to-back 50 goal seasons now. If you're not going to give credit to Ray Emery as a good goalie, than you should fear Ottawa's defense---one of them is doing their job most of the time, take your pick.

No, the new Senators have only been around for 15 years, we can't start talking about curses for another 15 years, at least. The Maple Leafs, on the other hand, are cursed (40 years without the Cup).

The Ducks outplayed the Sens, don't take that from them.

No they are not cursed. Maybe the victims of to many teams in the playoffs. Hockey is NOT the game it used to be. It takes far to long with TV time outs.

Expansion has been horrible for the game. It has given what fans are left a very diluted product.

Ducks were just a better team, no Sens curse. The old Ottawa Sens were realistically a completely different team.

No, the Sens are not cursed. There was no one in the Eastern Conference who could stop them (sorry Sabres fans), and Ottawa was simply overmatched by the Ducks.

not cursed....but i do kno of the "superstition" that players dont touch the conference cup when they win. if you look at pics on yahoo (when both teams won the conference) scotty niedermayer didnt touch it. alfredsson and spezza (iirc) did.
but overall, the team isnt cursed...they just got outplayed. sens top line was shut down. overall is was a great series....except for game 5....ducks just OWNED them

No, the ducks were the better team and its hard to look good playing against a team that is much better. Anyone who plays team sports knows this.

they looked fine in the first three rounds...so i dont know how you can say "they looked horrible"...this round yes, but thats because the ducks outplayed them..so i reject the curse theory, everyone is obsessed with curses...

how about the "curse of billy penn"??
