Okay, about a week ago I got a message on myspace. It was a video clip from a friend. I tried to open it and it directed me to another site (pop-up) and wanted a username and password. I immediately clicked the pop-up closed and deleted the message. The message was sent to everyone on my friends list and I didn't send it!

Ever since then, my computer has been extremely slow, especially the internet. I have Adaware and AVG 7.5 installed. I run them every day. They always find something that needs deleted. I changed my internet privacy settings to medium and it keeps getting reverted to 'accept all cookies'. I have yahoo popup blocker, but it hardly blocks anything.

I have done all I know to do. Please help!

First try going to start menu, go to run and enter msconfig.
go to startup items and remove EVERYTHING that you don't need to start up with the pc (you should find a LOT of junk in there if u never did this b4) Make sure that you remove all the crap that isn't launched or needed by either you or windows (Dell for example puts a lot of stuff in there, Aol, quicktime, realplayer, winamp, adobe etc...) Anything you remove from there will NOT uninstall the programs they will just stop them starting up without your knowledge and hogging up system resources, so don't worry. Just uncheck the boxes and click apply.

second:
run "Spybot search and destroy" to get rid of anything adaware didn't find.

third:
find an online site like mcaffee, or panda which will do an online free virus scan/spyware scan and scan your pc.

fourth:
defragment your hard drive. disk defragmenter should be under accessories->system tools.

fifth:
If you've had this pc for over a year and the above don't speed you up to acceptable levels consider backing up, reformatting and reinstalling windows. That will DEFINITELY do the trick!

Try to reboot your computer in safe mode and then run the virus scan \ spyware scan. This should allow you to get rid of the problem for good.

To do this:

Reboot your computer. After the BIOS check, the BIOS will load Windows from your hard drive. At this point a large Windows splash screen fills your monitor screen, and two seconds later a progress bar starts. In this two second time slot push the F8 key on the top row of keys on your keyboard, and you will be presented with an Advanced Boot Menu. Use the up/down arrows to select the desired option, normally the top one "Safe Mode" and press the enter key.

Try scanning in safe mode with network.
Tap F8 when booting your computer. Choose safe mode with network.

Start in safe mode with network.
Start -> Run: and type iexplore http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html... (Enter/OK)
Scan your computer.
If you fin something; delete it. Restart and do the same again. When the scanner finds nothing this scan is finish.

Reboot again in safe mode with network.
Start -> Run: type iexplore http://www.ewido.com/en (Enter/OK)
Scan your computer.
If you fin something; delete it. Restart and do the same again. When the scanner find nothing this scan is finish.

NOTE: Do not surf the net or open any programs when doing this scans. This because you can start spyware/adware/viruses manually.

Now your computer are clean and you can reboot back to normal mode.

Now you need to download some security.

Download the new free version of Ad Aware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_a...
and Spybot-S&D http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index...

Download a free antivirus program like AVG, Avast or BitDefender.
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1
http://www.avast.com/
http://www.bitdefender.com/product-14-en...

Also have a firewall. ZoneAlarm has a free one http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/c...

*NOTE: Only have one antivirus program and one firewall installed on your computer. Anti-adware/spyware are ok to have more of.

Also use Firefox or Opera as browser. They are safer.

Can anyone say "spyware"....

Sounds like you have a soyware infecting your PC. Spywares are not viruses, so AVG will not detect or clean them.

Go to http://download.com and get the free program Spybot Seek&Destroy. Run it and it should detect and clean the spyware. After that, run it about once a week to keep the computer clean.
