I have a 58 chevy that I need to tow to the mechanic. It hasn't been driving for quite some time, and I think most of the tranny fluid has leaked out. Can I tow it about 8 miles in neutral without fluid?

If you can't flatbed the car then take the drive shaft out and then no worries at all over the tranny.

If it is original it probably has the 2 speed power glide tranny which has an output shaft driven oil pump, which would keep the tranny lubricated while towing, but why take a chance? Those transmissions are hard to find and expensive.

Yes, I would fill it with fluid first to keep it lubricated. Best way ti to disconnect the drive shaft.

Either use a flatbed or disconnect the driveshaft and you'll be OK

Why not squirt a quart in before you move it?
