I'm 25 and I think I'm getting a wisdom tooth. It's horribly painful. It's even hard to eat. When I reach way back, I can feel something hard beginning to protrude from the gums, but it feels like it's coming forward instead of straight down. Is it just painful because it's coming through the gums? Will the pain go away once the tooth comes all the way in? In the meantime, what would you suggest I do to ease the pain?

Go to a Dentist. You might have to get it pulled.

Wisdom teeth can do weird things like having their roots go sideways and cross with the roots of other teeth.

Some kind of pain killer might feel better temporarily but it's not going to take care of the problem. The longer you put off seeing a dentist, the more likely it is your problem will get worse.

I had a painful wisdom tooth on my lower jaw when I was about your age. The dentist xrayed it and I had wisdom teeth on both sides with the roots going sideways. I had them removed and it was a big relief. I wasn't even aware of the tooth on the right side until the xray.

Funny, though, my upper wisdom teeth came in when I was about 20, and they never gave me a problem. They are still there.

Oh yeah, for some strange reason cloves are good for tooth pain. Yes, cloves the spice. Just take a whole clove or ground gloves and leave it in your mouth next to the sore tooth. It might help. I don't know it works, but I have tried it and it works, at least for some people.

If you can afford it, I'd get them removed. Wisdom teeth can kind of mess up your dental work. Also, if it's coming in at the wrong angle, they could be impacted, in which case you really need to have it looked at. Go to a dentist and see what he recommends.

Also, if it comes down to having them removed, it's nowhere near as bad as people say. It's just a small surgery under anesthesia, then it's all pain killers and pudding for a week. And if you're talking to someone you don't want to, just go to sleep while they're talking to you and blame it on the pain killers. Puffy cheeks feel kind of cool, too.

Ibuprofen works well for tooth and gum pain. Wisdom teeth often come in crooked. They usually need to be removed, because most people don't have room for them, and they can affect the surrounding teeth.

It may be coming in wrong, you might want to go to the dentist and get it checked. A lot of people have them come in 'impacted' which usually requires removal.
