Does anybody use a hedge trimmer?

I'm thinking about getting one. Are they worth it? The limited amount I've used one has not been too good but I didn't know what I was doing. Any suggestions for good brands. Don't want to spend more than about 100 dollars max. Thank you.

Most hedge trimmers are good, But of course some are better than others. Most Trimmers have nylon gears and the better trimmers have brass gears. So its no wander that gear strip when you cut into a branch that is to big. I like Little Wonder www.littlewonder.com/ but the costs is much higher than you want to spend. I can say with confidence that they will be the last trimmers that you will ever have to buy. Most people try to cut larger branches than their trimmer were designed to cut and most trimmers are dull. The trick to easy trimming is to have a sharp trimmer no matter what kind it is and keep it lubricated and clean as you trim. Good luck and think green.

I have a double sided electric Black and Decker that I use on a hedge of Escallonia it works really well. I also have a manual hedge trimmer that I will use for touch ups.

My observation is that the manual trimmers have a cleaner cut on the limbs. The electric trimmer leaves the limb ends with a frayed cut. But, my arms are not nearly as sore after using the electric trimmer, and the fraying does not seem to bother the Escallonia at all.

I have an electric Black & Decker hedge trimmer that I use on my boxwood bushes. It works and was only around $35.00. Of course, with it being electric I have a cord to mess with but I only have two bushes so it's no big deal. My husband uses the same kind of trimmer on some bushes he trims for an elderly lady. I don't recall hearing him say anything bad about it either.

Most electric trimmers are under $100. If you have lots of bushes to trim and are trying to level off the tops, they work well. I prefer the double sided trimmers so I do not have to get in awkward positions to trim.
