I know that it is safe to stay on the pill for a full 2 months skipping a period, but is it safe to do that for 3 months (I use months losely because I know its not full months)... OR if thats not safe, can I stop using the pill today (3 days into my next pack) and then will I get my period and I can start back up like usual. I ask because after counting it out I realized I will have my period for the week I'm on vacation, so I am wondering how I can avoid that?? Thanks for serious answers

When it comes to the birth control pill, you can only skip periods if you are using the monocyclic variety (all the pills are the same colour) and not if you are using the tricyclical variety (pills are three different colours. If you are the monocyclical...continue taking your package, you should be perfectly find to skip one more period.

If you are on the tricyclic pills, I would stop taking them immediately, for a week, like you normall would, and then start a brand new package of pills. You can't take three days, wait and then finish off the same packaging. When taking the pill the first few days and last few days of the package are very important and you must take them as prescribed.

Hope this helps.

I am on a type of pill where I only get a period after 4 months (28-day cycles). The popular brand name is "Seasonale," I think, but I'm on a different brand. And now they are making pills that suppress menstruation for a year. So I would think it is safe to skip for a third month, but I don't know what kind of pill you are taking.

Consult your doctor to be sure.

Getting on the shot is worse than getting on the pill. I was on it for four years and the side affects are horrible. I'm on Kariva (pill) now and loving it.

I would see about trying Seasonale as you only get four periods a year.

I've had my period while on vacation, I just don't let it run my life. Pads, tampons, and Pamprin or Midol are great to use.

IMO if you skip pills or not take them you could and will screw up your cycle and it could take months to get back on a regular cycle. I tried that in Aug '06 and it took me MONTHS to finally regulate my system with the pills. And, you could still end up getting your period because of breakthrough bleeding or just getting your period. So I don't think its worth it to skip pills or stop taking them.
