When my computer first starts up, it gives the options of like F1 setup, and F10 system recovery. Well I've done a system recovery before and all went well, but my computer has been at my mothers house with her using it for a while, and now i have all these problems. When i tried to do a system recovery, it started acting like it was taking me to the recovery screen but then a blue screen pops up and says like "STOP: (FATAL SYSTEM ERROR)" and like something about the process terminated. and a bunch of computer code letters and numbers, and then "system has shut down", and i have to turn the computer off and back on. This has never happened before and its really crazy, i tried to call the Compaq support center but I've had the computer for 2 years and they say I'm out of warranty, I really need some help. My computer has a lot of problems with it since i got it back, and i really need to do a recovery bad. Please only serious answers.

Do yourself a favour, back up (copy to CD / DVD / external hard drive) all personal data and use your Recovery CDs or do a Windows "Clean Install", more info at (www.theeldergeek.com).

I own a compaq, and have done a system recovery three times, and it works great every time. Some computer experts, probably do not know that when you buy a compaq, windows is already loaded, on the machine. The way you describe, is the way I do the system recovery. However, there is another way to start it. Start- programs-PC Help & Tools- then click on "compaq system recovery"..Try and see if that will work for you. If you are still unable to start system recovery, try it in safe mode, by tapping the F-8 key, as the computer is starting up.. Good Luck..

Try defragging it. It probably needs to have that done also if you have deleted any folders you mother had on the internet. This will get rid of unwanted space and make it run smoother.

ok...1. back up all your data use alcohol120 software.
run anti-virus, (please don't run NAV, or Mcafee).
Run you computer in Safe Mode by pressing F8 and run anti-virus.

Get a windows CD (original) and boot it from...and let windows do it job

Good luck
