I have always had an excellent sex drive with my partner even when I have been really depressed but since I have been on these tablets, even though my depression is easing, my sex drive is really suffering. Does anyone have any suggestions. Serious answers please.

I have been on the tablets for about six weeks now. The trouble is I believe they are really working and am reluctant to change them. Having said that I really enjoy sex with my partner but at the moment Ive got that cant be bothered feeling and when we do, I really struggle to have an orgasm to the point where I am embarrassed for him to keep trying so I fake it.

Go back to your doctor and explain the situation - he may change your medication. I was warned about this when I took them and the doctor did say he was willing to try another brand if the effects were debilitating. Best of luck.

Unfortunately that is a common symptom of many anti depressants.
Only suggestion is to ask your doctor to change tablets, but I expect he will tell you you no longer need them as depression curbs the sex drive and it is obviously lifting as you are acquiring yours back!
It takes over a week off the tablets for things to kick back in after you stop taking them.

anti depressants frequently have sexual side effects. the side effects could be transient (meaning that they may be only temporary), you didn't mention how long you have been taking the meds. you should consult your doctor about your sexual dysfunction and the possibilty of changing medications if the side effects you are experiencing do not diminish after your body becomes used to the medication. sometimes doctors won't ask about sexual dysfunction or a patient will be too embarrassed to broach the subject.

Yes one of the side-effects of citalopram is sexual dysfunction, however they are less sedative compared to other antidepressants and less cardiotoxic. Other side-effects include nausea, headache, insomnia, maybe diarrhoea and sexual dysfunction. But the point is that if you are getting the sexual dysfunction side effect then that proves they are working for you. Most antidepressants cause sexual dysfunction, if that is your only worry I would stay on the course and then your doc will gradually reduce the dose down. Give it minimum of 8 weeks.

Yes, I have the same problem. Nothing you can do about it. If you stop for a few days things will return to normal. It depends how much you need the medication and how much you need the sex! Depressing.

Well, my first advice would be to talk with your doctor about alternative drugs. Secondly, I took anti-depressants and it did kinda screw with my sex drive, and that really made me depressed! I changed meds and it seemed to help but I was still lacking. Soooo...I did what any horney American woman would do and I went to a upscale sex toy shop. I talked with the experts there and they recommended some very sexy movies (not real porn, but the kinda stuff I like to see...kissing..lovey stuff...and there was some hot sex scenes, but again, not really porn) some lotions and a really neat toy I had never seen before. My sex drive went up 100% from just being in the shop. Look for a woman-friendly sex shop and talk with the councilors there and I am pretty sure they can help. But don't forget to consult with your doctor!

I am on lexapro and have the same problem. After 1 1/2 months off you should be ok now. The best thing to do is just relax and dont think about, and it will happen and it will be great.
