More than likely your computer has an ide port. Just because your Hard drives are SATA doesn't mean your Optical Drives are. If you only have 1 optical drive odds are that there is a place right there for your IDE DVDRW. Just take the side panel off your case look at the back of your current optical drive and if you see a 2 inch wide ribbon cable coming out the back of it then it is IDE. Good Luck HTH.

It depends on your motherboard. Do you currently have an IDE CDRW/DVDRW drive installed, and wish to add another? IDE channels can support up to two devices, a master device, and a slave device. So, chances are, if you have one IDE device, you will be able to add another. Most motherboards that support SATA do have a legacy IDE controller for just this purpose, to add legacy optical IDE devices such as a DVDRW. If you provide more information about the make and model of your computer I will be able to help you further.

confident, it is going to help the two formats. yet.... why purchase a 250 GB SATA? for small length drives carry on with PATA (IDE) for vast length? get a great SATA and clone the 40 ONTO IT ! no desire FOR grasp N SLAVE, pass with cs (CABLE elect) SATA dont have grasp/slave jumpers.

If your motherboard has a 40 pin IDE controller, you sure can. All you need is a cable.

Don't take the side panel off if you have the VOID sticker connected like EMachines does if it's still under warranty. Break it and you're screwed.
