We generally keep our air condidtioning at home around 73 degrees. During the day we sometimes raise it to 75 and shut the blinds to keep it cool. Is this costing us more than just leaving it at 73 all the time?

While it may not actually cost any more, you're not going to be saving anything, either.....and.....You're not going to be as comfortable. Better to set it and forget it.

Get a programmable thermostat. You can set it for whatever keeps you comfortable. It's best to stay within a few degrees. If you are at work from 9-5 there is no sense having the air work hard when you're not at home so program temp for a few degrees higher. If you're home all the time, just set it and forget it. The money will probably be minimal savings but your unit will run more efficiently.

Raising the set point, (lowering delta T), for a significant period will always save some energy,
but for 2 Deg. F. you won't see it.
You might consider going to 78 Deg. or so as a
set point. After you get used to it you likely won't be able to tell the difference, and going outside will be less of a shock.

I would just leave it at 73 all the time.If it is comfortable during the day,it will be fine at night. No turning up the stat should not cost, but down kicks the thermostat in...

You are talking energy use. Lets use a comparative.....you are running a marathon(physically-with the Nikes/ not administratively). Compare:::If you ran constantly all day long to slowing down to a walk every once in awhile............at the end of the day who would feel more bushed(a measurement of energy usage).More bushed equates to more energy used.

Remember, this marathon has no finishing line that you have to cross first, you just had to keep moving.
