i think its utterly disgracful that maddys parents made an appeal, when its there criminal offence that left maddy unprotected and led to her being abducted. the world has many sick people that set out to hurt and abuse children,so why did they leave the children vunerable in that way. how many times have these parents previously left them to fend for themselves??? it makes me sick to my stomach that they are reaching celebrity status because they left their CHILDREN ALONE. if they had put the children first, non of this would be happening would it? i think they need to realise that people have lost sympathy with them, and are now finally thinking about how wrong they were, and that there are questions that they need to answer. no on in there right mind would leave 3 children alone at home, never mind in a foriegn country. its only a matter of time before they have to face up to what they are responsible for. its maddy thats paying the price dont you think??? our thoughts are with maddy

"SCOUSE" leaving your children in a different building is NOT LEAVING THEM IN A SAFE PLACE. THE SAFEST PLACE SHOULD HAVE BEEN WITH THE PARENTS,BUT THEY WERE TOO BUSY OUT HAVING ALONE TIME. THE PARENTS PLACE IS WITH THE CHILDREN . THEY WERE TO YOUNG TO FEND FOR THEMSELVES,AND CHILDREN THAT AGE DO NOT STAND A CHANCE AGAINST ANOTHER ADULT DO THEY!!

mshighwater, you have no need to feel pity for my children as they are all well cared for and looked after 24/7. all my children are respectful, beautiful and emotionally stable. they do not take drugs or get into trouble with the police, and they are my world. unlike you i dont agree with leaving children alone and unprottected. you need to grow up. having children is not like a game of dollys where you can put them down and leave them when you get bored. ITS REAL LIFE,AND COMMITMENT TO THEIR NEEDS IS A NUMBER 1 PRIORITY.

Well said Stone Angel, poor Madeline to be born to such neglectful parents, was she baby sitting the twins? You would think that they could have afforded a proper baby sitter if they could afford to eat out! Any responsible parent would have thought of the possible consequence of their actions, my sons 13 and I would be careful about leaving him at night just in case, the few times we have been out hes been staying at his uncles overnight, maybe im paranoid or too careful.
I do think that they have turned the hunt for their little girl into a media circus, taking the focus off the search for her. Unfortunately I think she is probably dead, children who are not found in the first few days of an investigation have generally been murdered. The other thing that worries me is are they using money that kind people have donated to the Madeline fund for their country hopping and expenses? If they are then it would be a total outrage as people donated it to search for Madeline and other missing children. I do hope that social services investigate why they abandoned their children and how often they do this.

I agree. I also don't understand why she's always on the news in the UK when she went missing in Portugal - what is the chance of someone having brought her to England - particularly with all the media interest? I doubt it highly. I reckon they'd head to somewhere people haven't really heard of.
And as for the whole Crimewatch thing itself - someone rang in? Why would someone suddenly come forward when it was featured on there, yet not before? Had they not been watching the news? Had they not seen the posters plastered everywhere? Did they think it was all just a big joke?
Regarding 'crime of abandonment' - it doesn't count here. They're 'well off' in terms of money, etc, and they are therefore loving parents who did not deserve this. If they didn't have much money, nobody would have cared. Check out the website for missing children - you've probably never heard half of the names on there. And most likely, that's because their parents aren't 'well off'.
But, you know, it's okay - they still have two children left. And as Meat Loaf sings, 'Two out of three ain't bad'.
However, I *do* hope Maddy is alive and well.

I am definitely not a McCann sympathiser and believe some action should be taken against the parents
This particular appeal is to help Madeleine so let her parents do all they can to get exposure for the child . Why should she suffer any more then she is already just because her parents are irresponsible. Let them parade themselves as responsible parents if it gets the child back quicker that's the main for the the sake of the little girl.
Their time will come when they can't hide behind finding Madeleine and that's when they will need to answer why they neglected their children all for the sake of a meal.

hi i think stone_angel11 has a point and your all turning your nasty comments on her, she said she is not perfect, and i don't think she is immature or a silly cow as some idoit said, nobody is getting away from how awful what happened was, but they were offered a sitting service, but perferred to leave there babies (which they are) alone in a strange place where the door was unlocked, do you go out leaving you door open with all your prized things there for anybody to walk in and take ,NO, well why do it with your kids then, and there not that worried about jetting around the world and leaving there other babies for somebody else to care for. MADDY PLEASE BE SAFE SWEET ANGEL.

I totally agree with you, you have said exactly what I think, as do my family and friends. I am also a mother, and have never left my child alone or put him in a vulnerable situation, I am far from perfect, but hopefully where my son is concened I do must very best to protect him.

Unfortunately as a Child Protection Officer I have to nitpick. The crime they commited was not abandonment it was neglect.
According to the NSPCC the definition of neglect is:
Failure to provide basic needs (eg food, warm clothing); leaving children alone and unsupervised; failing to provide love and affection.
Neglect is a form of child abuse.

Yes they did wrong I agree and am an anti McCann as we have been called on here.
However that said, I still think that appeals should be made for her. Just not in a world tour and such like.
I think it was silly to show us those PJs I mean, anyone sat here in old Blighty is hardly likely to have seen her that night!. Anyone who WAS in Portugal at the time will have already known.

Absolutely right, they are a total disgrace. At some point they will have to answer for why they needlessly exposed their very young children to all manner of risks, abduction being the least of them.
