Yes, Sudan still has slavery, and so do a few other third world countries. Human trafficking is also very real, and although the people, mostly women, who are kidnapped are not considered "slaves", that is basically what they are. And it does still happen in the U.S. A big ring was busted up in California in the late 90's.

While I believe that it is illegal pretty much everywhere slavery still exists, even in the U.S.
I live 30 minutes outside Washington D.C. and just last year the police busted a prostitution ring that included sex-slaves from Asia and Latin America.
Nor are all of the slaves from third world countries. Just yesterday there was a news report of a 15 year old American girl, who was kept as a sex slave for a year by a couple in New England.
Granted slavery isn't an accepted institution like it was 200 hundred years ago, but it still exists.
(edit)
Some people on this board are under the misunderstanding that human trafficking is more indentured servitude than slavery. Although some trafficking is more akin to indentured servitude in that they are paying off a debt to work in fields or even as sex workers, many are not.
Frequently these individuals are tricked into these situations or outright kidnapped. They are not paid, are treated as property having no rights, and are mentally and physically abused.
That is slavery not indentured servitude.

I read something recently that said that there are more slaves in the world today than at any point in history. That's pretty scary when you think about it. Yes, apparently, Sudan has been the worst case over the last couple of decades, but some former Soviet states have started to see a little, especially in the sex trades, and other parts of the world too. Even in the U.S., there have been isolated reports. Of course, its not something that you'd advertise, because we'd shut them down immediately if we found out, but if someone is kidnapped and made to work or provide services while kidnapped, that's slavery, isn't it? So it is possible, especially in isolated areas.

Isn't marriage a form of slavery? Many people from poor and third world countries are used as slaves by people in wealthier nations. A classic example would be when people pay to be smuggled into a country. The have to 'work' to pay for their accommodation and transportation costs. Many women are used as 'sex slaves,' with little or no chance of every being free.
In the UK recently a number of Chinese workers were killed when a gang-master put their lives at risk sending them into Morcambe Bay for cockles. They had no choice on the type of employment & no rights. That to me is slavery.

I think what you are trying to ask "is there still 'race-based' slavery in the world. Yes. In Mauratania, Arabs still have ***** slaves as they have for centuries. Also in the Sudan and other places in Africa. Malays in Indonesia and the Philippines have been caught using Negritos and Melanesians as slaves in recent times.

well yeah there are many places where people work as slaves. for example in Greece i have heard of stories where people that come from Africa bring with them people from those places and have them to work for them. also the big Factories you know that are famous world wide have their Factories in places like Asia where they exploit the little kids for example. i have read an article where kids like 8 years old or like teenagers work at Factories where they sell their products in the rich countries but those kids get the most 1 dollar a day and i doubt if they give them so much.
also in china i know that people work for many hours but their payment is so low that they are actually slaves and not workers that are treated well and stuff like that.
well you can find more information about this topic from the non govermental organisations.like form their sites or sth

While technically, slavery is against every nation's laws and against international law, it does still exist in the world.
Africa, Asia, Arabia, South America and yes, Virginia even in the USA.
Drug dealers have enslaved peons in S America to grow, cultivate and process their drugs.
Women are sent to the US illegally from numerous countries and forced into prostitution and manual labor.

Yes. It is called Human Trafficking. And it still happens all over the world. Not just 3rd world nations. Young, naive women are either tricked into going to a new country by promises of a better life, or, are just outright kidnapped.
Natalie Hollaway is still missing from Aruba, and the speculation is that she may have been kidnapped, since no body has been found.

There might be some abusive villages or small towns in isolated regions of the world which might harbor slaves, but overall slavery is over on this planet.
Indentured Servitude is not slavery and never was.
