One man once brought the entire internet crashing down with a single command. He sent a ping (a message to a remote computer, to see if it responds) to IP address 255.255.255.255.
This is a broadcast address that forwarded the ping to every computer on the network, which happened to be the internet.

The internet was in chaos as every online computer in the world responded to his ping. It doesn't work anymore, the powers that be changed things so that 255.255.255.255 only pings every computer in your local network.

Oh, and contrary to popular beleif, Al Gore never claimed to have invented the internet, he in fact said that he "took initative in creating" it, referring to his passing legislation, the "Gore Bill", which greatly helped the development of the internet. He has been a notable supporter of early intenrt development.

Al Gore [American politician] claims he invented it.

Most Americans laugh at his claim.
