Yes, you do have to pay to play World of Warcraft. It costs $15 dollars a month and $20 dollars a month to play on the European server. However, you can get a free 14-day trial on the World of Warcraft website. If you have a friend that plays World of Warcraft, they can invite you to play for free for a month. They have to send you an e-mail that will let you download World of Warcraft.

World of Warcraft is a Massive Online Multiplayer Role-Playing Game, so no, you cannot play in single player mode.

Ok Warcraft, and World of Warcraft are two completely different types of games that share the same world history.

Warcraft (1 through 3 and an expansion pack each for 2 and 3) are all real-time strategy games. You CAN play on-line with or against other people, but can also play it offline whenever you want. You control whole armies at a time, and steer them with your mouse.

World of Warcraft (and its expansion) is a subscription based MMORPG. You have to pay out something every month to keep playing, and you have to be on-line to play. You control one character at a time, and steer them with your keyboard. There is no legitimate way to play WoW offline, and you must pay the subscription fee.

There should be movies of both being played at Youtube, you can probably go see the differences there.

World of Warcraft is a multi player online only. And yes you have to pay to play. It's $15 a month, or it's cheaper if you pay a few months in advance.

You can get a free trail though if you go to the offical site.

The only way around this is to make or get on a private server, but this is against Blizzard's policy. If you google Warcraft private server you should find everything you want to learn that way.

No single player mode. Its an MMO. To play on blizzard servers its $15 a month. You can play on private servers but typically they are unstable and unreliable.

Only single play versions of warcraft are:
Warcraft
Warcraft II The Dark Tides
Warcraft III
Warcraft III The Frozen Throne

World of Warcraft is a Massive Multiplayer Online RPG which is online only which subscription fees do apply.

You can, however play games such as Warcraft III online without a fee and you can play them offline as well.
