Nope, just gives you more chances for answers because it will show up as a starred question for anybody who's in the contact list of whomever starred it.

No, it doesn't give you more points. But thumbs up does. If you get a best answer, you get 10 points and if you got 3 thumbs up, you'll get 13 points total =)
