I thought it was painful. Morbidly obese black people shoving fried chicken down their throats, speaking ebonics, and being mean to each other.
Is this really entertainment? Is this a positive portrayal of African-Americans? Why is it okay? Because Tyler Perry, the show's creator is black?

I didn't need to watch it to think it was horrible. The previews alone were bad enough. This show only shows how unfunny sitcoms have become. They sure don't make them like they use to. Compare this show to Cosby and - well there is no comparison! I don't understand why a family being mean to each other is funny. It's not a positive portrayal of people in general because I don't think most American familys are like that - no matter what their color.

According to entertainment yes. And for him, its about using family experience and character traits to simulate real life troubles. It may not be "a positive portrayal", but in reality there are a lot of overweight AMERICANS in the US. It is not about being ok, its about telling the truth. If every show on tv always showed skinny or small people, that would be a lie b/c everyone is not the same size!!!! And his show is no diff. than, Will & Grace, Two & a Half Men, and many other shows with white ppl who do stupid inane stuff that makes no sense. Anotha good example would be the Rosanne show!!

Remember the obese guy on Queen of Queens who's always downing a plate of 6 inch piled high chicken wings? Do you watch Everybody Loves Raymond or Frasier--these are sitcoms that are in the same class as House of Payne. Oh, I get it, House of Payne has BLACK characters, creators, etc. Is your problem the program content or do I sense a racial tone in your question? The sitcom is very entertaining as the above mentioned ones and many more which I can name. When I rate a TV program or movie, etc. I check out the tone, whether or not it's a low-budget thrown-together show or sometimes the shows are dead and they fail to keep your attention. House of Payne almost made me burn my supper! It was interesting, very humorous and of course all the shows have some bit of way out exaggerations. This is what makes them successful, they make people want more & more. If you don't like a show, do as I do--don't watch it. Don't sound off as one who may be jealous of someone else's success because it wasn't you who did it.

the actors on the shows have been trying for years to break into the industy, and tyler perry gave them a job. the show was funny. it shows real life. not EVERYONE is skinny and eats salads and what not. believe it or no, there are fat. plus size, whatever you wanna say, people out there. did you not watch seinfeid because the mail man guy was fat? he ate crap all day. or king of queens, the husband is fat? do you nto watch that? and they did not speak "ebonics" or be mean to each other on that show. they spoke to each other like any other black white asian latino family does. everyone had a job except the woman on the show, because both of there husbands were empolyeed enough that they didn't have to work. i like the show and will watch again every week. don't like it, change the channel.

I think u are being a lil crucial. Yes the show was not as good as I expected but it was still okay. and obesity is not anything new in the us. Everyone in the world is not a size 2 u know, hell the majority is not. the average woman is a size 14. So don't go there.

I thought it was hilarious. Madea is a riot!! I think most people know that this is just a TV show and all African Americans are not like that, (of course now, here in the south, most black and white people act like that) but anyways, just like in the 70's, all white people were not like Archie Bunker.

It wasn't painful. Was Roseanne criticized for being obese and for how they spoke? It could have been funnier. It is entertainment, it's just a show. I will give it another chance
