Unless you use an OEM water pump, you are getting a piece remanufactured overseas. Who do you trust? The people that made your car, or the people paid $.15/hour to rebuild your parts with the cheapest methods possible? Absolutely stupid to change a water pump that hasn't failed, unless that is a KNOWN problem with that car at whatever mileage you are at. The water pump is PURELY mechanical, if it fails, it will leak some coolant, thats it! I would be willing to bet money your owners manual makes no mention of changing the water pump, just like it makes no mention of changing the camshaft or the alternator. They expect the water pump to last just as long as the rest of the engine components, or they would specify a change interval, like they do the timing belt. Change intervals make the dealers money, if they could get away with telling you to replace it at X miles, they would. But they don't, because there is no reason to change it.

Isn't that a Suzuki try to get the service manual for one of those with the same engine? If it is still running drive it over to Auto Zone and they will print the timing mark page off of All Data for you.
