GENIE is likely the most well known brand. I've installed my share. I prefer the Gear/ Auger type direct drive to belts or chains, but others may not?

With help, a DIY can do the deed in half a day, and instructions are very specific, and easy to understand. Usually under $200 will get you a decent one, and certainly the TYPE you get will depend on the type of garage door, IE: sectioned with horizontal panels, or a solid door.

I have had good luck with Genie, Chamberlin, and Craftsman. I've seen some lately that include a battery back up so you can open the door if the power is out (nice if you come home in a storm to a house with no power).

I've installed them, but it usually takes me the better part of day - I had someone install the last one - $69 and it was up and running in an hour.
