Good question my friend - the Bible clearly supports incest.
Notice how one respondent mentions how the Hebrews never recorded the births of daughters. Fair enough, but I thought the Bible was supposed to be the word of God? Seems not - clearly you think the Bible is the word of Man (as you say, recorded by the Hebrews), so why stick so infallibly to the word of the Bible?
Or is this just the Old Testament, fire-and-brimstone, vengeful God we are talking about, as opposed to the PR-friendly New Testament God?
What a dreadful book.

Because Cain was a farmer & Able tended sheep, they were both members of the new agriculture movement that developed about 5,800 yrs ago. We find that most tribes refer to themselves as "the people" and view outsiders as "the others." Because it is doubtful than anyone of the period could write, these were campfire stories told by tribal elders & one can be sure each generation added to the story a bit to hold the interest of the listeners. One has to suspect that the hunter gatherers still roaming the area were not looked upon as "men" by the people engaged in agriculture.
Chuckle, we know with absolute certainty that homo sapien lived in the mid east nearly 100,000 yrs ago. At what point the tribe(s) engaged in agriculture is open to conjecture, but some suspect the MCPH gene triggered that movement.

The firstborn child may have been a female. The Hebrews never listed women in geneologies except by rare exceptions, as they do not carry the Family Name. The most ancient records on this planet tend to regard women as property. Hebrews merely continued a tradition from much older times. Abel may have been married as well as Cain at the time of his death, but had no male children to carry on his name.

Or do you find a problem with Cain (and Seth, the third male child of the original pair, who came later ) taking their sisters as wives?
If someone seriously wishes to discredit the Bible account, why not look for some reasonable evidence? I'm sure 'something' can be found. But one has to really, really 'want' to believe it. It takes a lot of faith to disbelieve a reasonable historic account.

That matter itself bears some serious inquiry, why someone is inclined to prop up absurd ideas in favor of the reasonable. Like maybe a monkey is your father?

Screaming Radical has it right. Now listen to this;

Mitochondrial DNA has proven every person on earth comes from a single female who lived about 150,000 years ago. This is fact. (See the documentary "The Real Eve" from the Discovery channel.)
Adam and Eve were two of only about 5000 humans on the entire earth. Mankind was facing extinction. I believe, Eve was the first person to become self aware; to question the why and how; to finally be different from all other animals. (This is the tree of knowledge business.) She spread this awareness to her mate and children. And once aware, they could never go back to the bliss of ignorance (the Garden of Eden.) She became the first "real human being" because of this.
When it came time for cain to take a wife, there were other females around; he did nothing with his mother we'd find repugnent today.
This means both the Eveloutionists and the Creationists are right. What a tragedy!

They were not the only people on Earth. You cannot take the Bible literal. God never created one thing at one time, he created all of human kind at the same time.
Some theorist say that Cain & Able are symbols of technology & agriculture.

Back then God had no law against incest within the family since the earth needed to be populated. So as hard as it is to accept, Cain must have married (Genesis 4:17 *knew*-meaning slept with) his sister to help populate the world. You have to remember that Adam & Eve lived a very long life back then (into their hundreds), so they had many kids. It wasn't until much later that God put forth the law against man sleeping with man & woman sleeping with woman, & sleeping with your neighbors wife, the commandment of Adultery was come about. That was at mount Sinai when Moses brought down the stone tablets with the ten commandments on them.

Cain killed Abel and God punished Cain. He told him that he was cursed and was banned from his farm. So any1 who tried to kill cain they would die 10 times more. So cain lived a suffering life with no job and no hope of a better life.

This section is for science, not fairy tales. There were no Cain and Abel.

They were probably the first to mate with apes and create mankind.

THEY WERE NOT THE ONLY PEOPLE ON EARTH. If they had been where would they have gotten wives?
